The Rockets have been a tough, strong team for several years now, but they weren't the strongest in the league. Notably, they weren't stronger than the Jazz. With the addition of Dorsey and Artest, I think the Rockets are the toughest and strongest team in the league, and may be the strongest since the Bad Boy Pistons. C: Yao - strong lower body, above average strength for his position Mutombo - built like a 60-year-old weightlifter) Dorsey - Absolute bad-ass PF: Scola - below average strength for his position, but above average toughness Landry (if re-signed) - strong upper body and hands, tough Hayes - Incredible lower body, impossible to post. SF: Artest - Absolute bad-ass Battier - Well above average strength for his postion, incredible toughness Novak - My sister's stronger, but whatever SG: McGrady - Probably the only notable miss, average strength, below average toughness Barry - average strength, average toughness Head - weak and not tough PG: Alston - Has been described around the league as sneaky-strong, small, but stronger than he looks Francis - if he plays, he's one of the toughest and strongest at his postion. Brooks - Too small, but fearless. With the exception of two-guard, the Rockets have many of the strongest players in the league at their respective positions, and almost everyone has above average strength and toughness. I think it bodes well for the playoffs.
Come on wes! C - Hakeem PF - Otis Thorpe SF - Robert Horry That was a strong lineup. Everyone over 6-10 and Otis Thorpe can hold the ball like its a grape.
Hayes - Incredible lower body, impossible to post????? Ah Carlos Boozer killed us the past 2 yrs...and so did most starting PF when Hayes was starting....
C Hakeem PF Thorpe SF Horry... Definitely stronger and tougher than this team.... You don't **** with Otis Thorpe....The guy should be a professional bodybuilder.
I thought about that. Mad Max, Mario Elie, and Amigo, too. They're notable. But that team also had Kenny Smith, Scotty Brooks, and Matt Bullard playing big minutes.
You don't do the things McGrady does having "below average toughness". It's so ridiculous the baseless theories people have formed about McGrady. It's like some stupid meme with basketball. "If you take a lot of jumpshots, you're a p***y!" McGrady stands up for himself and teammates when an opponent acts like a douche. He plays through tons of injuries. He plays extremely underrated defense. And you just don't get as good as McGrady at this level by having "below average toughness". Please just cut that bull****.
To add to that, I'm not saying that McGrady is the most mentally strong player in the league or anything. I know he has room for improvement there, but he is a strong player. He's competitive.
Here's the 12 Man Roster I see for this years' Houston Rockets (and I am HYPED about the new acquisition of "Rocket Ron" Artest! ) C - Yao Ming/Dikembe Mutombo/New Player? (I think he (Mutombo) will play ONE MORE SEASON, regardless of the Rockets having trouble renewing his contract.) PF: Scola/Hayes SF: Artest/Battier SG: McGrady/Barry/New Player? PG: Alston/S. Francis/Brooks The Inactive 3 (that would round out the roster of 15) * Carl Landry (Seeing how 'as of right now' we are unsure on how healthy he is gonna be... i see him on the inactive list... but FOR SURE, when he is 100% Healthy with that knee, Hayes will be inactive!) * Luther Head - Quite honestly? I view him as a "poor-mans" Cuttino Mobley. So my analysis on him? We got rid of "Gay" (drafting him and then sending him to Memphis on draft night.) we're gonna get rid of "Head" too... via a trade (if not for a small role player, for a first rounder from (my prediction on who would want Head, whether thats from a player to be named or draft pick? The Charlotte Bobcats.) ) * Steve Novak - Trading him for a TE (Trade Exception) or putting him on waivers. Hmmmm... I was doing some adding and that is only 11 players... the 12th player could be the one via a Head and possible Novak trade? GO ROCKETS!!! I am really seriously considering getting a Half-Season package if not a full-season to watch our newly-revamped Rockets team!
I'm still angry that none of our 'Strong' Players couldn't grab a freaking rebound at the Toyota Center in game 7 vs the Jazz in the fourth quarter!
You and me both, tinman. You and me both. But that team didn't have Dorsey, Landry, or Artest. We're better equipped if we can get to that point this year.
I was just watching footage of that the other day, it's incredible. Thorpe could wind up like he was going to throw the ball the length of the court, and then hold onto it when he changed his mind. Not many guys can do that.
