    Exactly.
Stro does not seem to be able to work in a system
esp a very constrained and 'discipline' one

Stro NEEDS a BRAIN and he NEEDS a heart. He should have chose Oz so he could go play for the WIZARD.

Watch the game before you post. the guy sucks and is lazy. is there a system that makes you not lazy.

    Pgab,

While I agree with you to an extent, I think it is more a lack of motivation. Some players respond to critcism, some to praise.

I think Stro is one who needs positive reinforcment.....and he gets motivated on success. Watch him play after a big dunk....he is energy personified.

Yao is a bit of the same type of player, he thrives when things go well early.

That is why JVG always tries to get Yao an early basket....that way you have a motivated Yao.

I think Stro needs the same thing...why not set up a back door alley oop play for Stro? Get his heart pumping and get him into the game?

If Stro was a 2nd year player, I might agree with you. But he's been in the NBA 6 YEARS! It's not anybody's system. It's not the coach. It's not the lack of positive reinforcement. IT IS STRO!!! He's a bust.

What he needs to do is hustle. Take a look at Ryan Bowen. Why can't Stro play that hard? If he did, 10/10 would be guaranteed every single game (if he didn't commit 4 fouls in his first 6 minutes). We need rebounding on the offensive end; why can't he do that? Because he has no heart or hustle. The problem is between his ears. These excuses are laughable.

New Jack, I usually agree with you. But what did Stro do last year with JWill when he was in a contract year? He laid a big egg. In fact, he played with JWill 4 years in Memphis. And "roaming" on defense? Truly great shot blockers can also D up their own man (Dream, Deke). Stro's poor man to man defense would be a bad fit on any good defensive team, not just ours. Maybe he should go to Atlanta or Toronto. Discipline, smarts and hard defense are hallmarks of all NBA championship teams and I guess Stro cannot fit on one based on your comments. Let's get rid of him. We made a mistake.

He is the flavor of the month...it's all good as long as it keeps the focus off of Yao. ;)

Agreed. Stro can't play in a highly structured atmosphere. He just doesn't have the brain for it. And it stifles his athleticism to a degree.

If we had a point guard that could deliver the ball to him on a break, he wouldn't look like Shoe-Wearing Crap.

Thing is, do we wait for Rafer to get healthy and see how this new team jells? Or will Rafer and Stro be packaged away in a trade before they can prove themselves (the season very likely having slipped away from us anyway)?

Swift being a bust does not preclude him from being a useful player to this team. Cato was a bust, but we still found a way to eventually get him to contribute. And that didn’t come until his 7th season in the league.

The more I’ve watched him, the more I’ve lowered my expectations of him. I would be satisfied if all he ever became was a solid bench contributor that can contribute 10-5-2, which he still very capable of doing. But it seems noone will be satisfied unless this guy becomes a 15-10-3 type of player.

The sooner the fans and Van Gundy learn to deal with the fact that Swift is what he is, the better. He still can be a contributor to this team even if he doesn't improve one iota. But he's not going to ever live up to the expectations he had when he was drafted.

Agree with you 100%. I was thinking they signed Stro to play along side Yao and make up for Yao's lack of athletism. I think to some degree it is up to the coach to try and get the most out of a player and I really like JVG as the rocket coach, but so far he has not used Stro to his full potential. JVG was the one who wanted Stro since last season, so in my opinion alot of this is on JVG. He hand picked him. This team will not sniff at a championship with Howard as the starting PF. Also Howard stuggled incredibly during the 1st half of last season as well. Pair Stro with Yao and get Alston and Sura back before you trade this dood.

New Jack: I agree with everything you just said, but we should trade him if offered a better player in exchange.

jump shooter: This team will never sniff a championship with Stromile Swift as the starting PF.

Swift played for Hubie Brown in his uptempo style offense and he was putting up the same numbers then as he is now.

Meet the newest member of "Clutches crew"

    I digress.

I would love to see us get a 3rd option player out of Swift.

I will take that 3rd option player at ANY position.

We could use a 2,3,4,5, or 1 that score.

We need someone right now to help T-mac, teams are smothering him like they did Yao when T-mac was out.

It is terrible. We HAVE to have another scorer!

Eh, I wouldn't really consider Hubie's system an uptempo style. The Grizz play a slower style like us but have better players to run when needed.
