So, I was taking my usual route to pick up my niece from school, and I saw a familiar face. There is always an older man on the corner of the intersection of Federal and I-10, carrying a sign and handing out fliers for a business. I see him every weekday and we exchange smiles and occasional waves. Well, it was super hot out today and I just happened to have an unopened bottle of icy water when I saw him. I looked at his nearly empty gallon of water, that I'm sure was already warm and figured he would enjoy that bottle much more than I would. I roll down my window, get his attention, and hand him the bottle. He thanks me and then asks if I've ever heard a song called, "Stereo Love". I say no and he tells me to go home and listen to it. "Stereo Love, Edward Maya", he repeats so that I'll remember. I pull out my phone at the next light and look it up and still now, hours later I'm SO confused. <iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/6_5D4y6x-oo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Why this song? This is the last song I would expect a middle-aged white man to recommend to a stranger. Is there something I'm not getting? lol Maybe someone has some input that will clear things up, maybe not. I don't know, I just felt like sharing.
You've heard this song before, right? It's big in the clubs. I admit it has an infectious gypsy-esque accordion, meh ...but not an odd recommendation, imo. He probably just got turned onto it himself, and was trying to be hip. Probably no underlining reason.
Either he saw the cute chick in the video, heard a son or daughter listen to it .... or heard it on the radio and liked it. Techno is fairly derivative from late '70s disco, so it could have easily reminded him of something. Also, you got a middle-aged white guy handing out fliers for a living, so maybe not entirely on the ball (randomly recommending songs to strangers at a damn intersection? Weirdo McQueerdo...)
I don't know, but it may not be worth finding out the answer to this particular riddle. When I walk to work in the mornings, I frequently travel past one homeless dude's living area. Always in the same spot under the freeway, always sweeping up his spot with a mop with two strands left hanging on. Do I stop and make conversation? Sadly, I do not. Chance that he's another Juilliard-trained Jamie Foxx just waiting to be handed a violin? .03%. Chance that he's legitimately schizophrenic, and that the consequences of any human interaction with him will in the future force me to take another path to work? Roughly 99.97%. (Factoring into this equation: the pronounced stench of urine.) In such cases, thousand yard stares FTW (or at least block).
Didn't listen to it, but I looked up the lyrics and they're all about fawning over a girl. Perhaps he took your kindness for more than it was and decided to indirectly hit on you. Doesn't seem like the kind of guy who has much to lose.
What? No. Disagree. I might be old, but this is not about a guy fawning over a girl. Not to say there is anything wrong with those type songs,,,or giving pamplets to beautiful babes 10yrs younger than me...and loving their iced cold water. that said, this song is about a girl singing to a guy. This is not stalker music. It is a very sexy female singer signing about a guy.
they played that song a **** ton in clubs a while back. it's a pretty famous song. dont think there's really any other reason
Haha...well, that's what I get for not listening to it. Didn't realize it was a girl doing the singing. Though, if you just read the lyrics separately, it's not hard to see where I was coming from. And I didn't say anything about stalking - fawning over someone isn't necessarily creepy.
Maybe XxShadyPinkxX is the one who confuses us? Not the thirsty guy on the corner trying to give out flyers and popular (not "strange") music tips....albeit fawning over XxShadyPinkxX's sexXxiNesSes
lol, I recently posted this on a friends' Facebook page. Jokingly asked Which Euro dance song featuring generous amounts of accordion is the better one, "Stereo Love" or this one <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/H8hqP99RdXk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Do I like the song(s), approaching middle ages? Sure, its good driving music. Though Stereo Love has 122 MILLION views on youtube ?
so we are back at square one, it's not about the gypsy music XxShadyPinkxX is intrigued by the gypsy dude she sees everyday. yep
Wow, that song is like a thesis on what makes a bad song. If he'd recommended this, I would've adopted him: http://youtu.be/XZVXHwwmOtg
edit: sorry i posted without reading the first post. thought this thread was about strange music... <iframe width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/epoHB_yZ1uU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/-nqZlzvSwXM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/bKuZzR2FknI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> and the strangest by far <iframe width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/_Z5-P9v3F8w" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I can't believe you guys think that just because you get older you can't listen to (or even know about) new music.
These replies are the initial vibe I got from it which is why I called the recommendation strange. I had heard the song before and didn't particularly like it, though it is catchy. I don't know why it struck me so much, maybe I just assumed an older gentleman would have better taste? This thought crossed my mind, too. But yes, I am intrigued. Not in a romantic or sexual way though lol Dude is too old and not cute, but he looks like an interesting person...
i'm guessing you are a young female. in that case, he prolly thought you already knew the song and wanted to appear "hip" to you in hopes of getting your phone number etc.
