Post here about this interesting phenomenon.

    Mine:

Sometimes it happens to me no matter where I try to sleep, so I know it's not bed bugs or anything.

I had this problem yesterday. I think its the soap I'm using, and probably hard water. Allergies have been really bad in Austin especially since its been so windy, but I think the soap I've been using has caused my skin to dry and crack up so when I lay in bed and it rubs against the covers it makes my body itchy. It's my best guess. I'm going to probably switch to a body wash over a standard bar of soap, and drink at least a couple of glasses of water a few hours before bed and a small one before I lay down to sleep. I also drink a lot of soda or coffee and these will dehydrate as well.

    Here's something strange about itching.

My scalp itches a lot when I eat spicy food.

...and whenever I drink hot milk my pits won't stop itching either.

Yeah, its the most irritating thing in the world. If I take a shower at night it usually doesnt happen. Im pretty sure its mostly the placebo effect. When you think about it, it starts itching.

I get itchy if the temperature changes quickly. For example, its really cold outside right now and if I stand outside then come back in, I get extremely itchy. But its a itch that I can't really scratch. Also when I was younger, and I washed some dishes, I would have the same reaction. I haven't washed dishes in year so I don't know if it still happens.

I have a light case of eczema and I agree that it matters. If you shower before you sleep, the detergent from your clothes might also be abrasive to your skin.

The worst is when you feel one part of your body itch. Then another part suddenly appears after that and so forth. The key is not to pay attention to the first itch.

Bingo! Good observation. Scratching that first itch is equivalent to breaking the seal.

It's likely just dry skin. I have the same thing happen sometimes at night, and in the morning when I wake up.

Lotion....use it. It helps in the winter.

histamine releases when you are overly hot...or when you cool down after exercising...

    HOLY CRAP!
I have this problem too. A lot. Has nothing to do with showers (take them in the morning) or my temp (house is the same temp). I just get itchy all over when I try and go to sleep. Weird. Also sometimes I wake up with strange long scratches on my back like aliens did surgery on me.

I'm so glad there are more people like me.

I get SO itchy at night, I'll scratch my shoulder, and then suddenly my leg will itch, and then when I scratch my leg my face will itch, and...it's never ending! Doesn't matter where I am, what temp it is, or how soft or coarse the covers are, I just itch all the time at night. Drives me crazy.
