Is this a joke show? I'm guessing it is since it's on CC. And I'll throw in the preemtive 'haha' at whatever juvenile joke is bound to show up in this thread.
I didn't see this, but I read the reviews last week on the show and it sounded histerical. I thought it sounded great when the guys go into the gay guys bathroom. Something like them saying "You've got waaaay too many hair and skin care products. What you need is a bar of soap." Sounds like good stuff to me.
Is that show funny? I've tried to watch it a few times and just can't seem to get into it. What is it like?
I don't really like it. There are some funny things, but overall, these guys present a stereotype of staight men we don't really want. I'm pretty sure it's a joke show as last night, one of the decorating themes was a bucket of Dos Equis in the bathroom, as you can't ever have too much beer. There are still plenty of funny parts, last night they were explaining how being a straight man is all about feeling uncomfortable around women. They took the gay man from this ep to a strip club and while he was getting a lapdance, they were saying "look at her, then look away, look, look away." "You are a little embarrassed and ashamed." I thought there was supposed to a Straight Eye for the Queer Guy on Bravo. I remember reading something about how it would focus on teaching stuff like using tools and sports etc.
I think those things tend to be less funny than the reverse because gay men often seem to be more comfortable with who they are once they are "out" then straight men are. It's funny because you don't realize how sort of repressed and uncomfortable some straight men can be until you put them next to a flaming queen. It's that exact weird and ironic juxtaposition that makes Queer Eye so damn hilarious but what would make straight guys ganging up on a gay man to teach him manly pursuits very un-funny.
I watched some of it last night and didn't find it funny at all. Most straight guys really don't act the way those guys do, and I'm a little ashamed to be represented by them.
I saw about ten minutes of one episode last night, and I didn't find it funny at all. I still like Queer Eye now that I know there's new episodes.....those guys are good. But I think Carson's motto should be: Do as I say....not as I do.
I couldn't stomach this show after about 8 minutes. It was wickedly terrible. The idea sounded interesting (very "Man Show"-ish) but horribly implemented.
