This guy is a hard guy to WANT. His offense is potent but his defense is . . . weak. Do the rockets want a guy that will give you 20 and 10 but give up 18 and 9? Rocket River
Would rather have Bosh than Stoudemire because of the knee issue, but Amare would be a decent plan B if Bosh won't come to Houston.
With Brooks, Martin, and Stoudemire, we'd have the worst defense in the league. But the offense would be interesting, to say the least.
I don't understand how an athletic freak like him could be sooooooooooooooo bad on defense. I mean the dude is absolute garbage on one side of the floor. The Suns system could be partially blamed, but I have seen some games where he puts 0 effort on defense. Its comical. He is a good player, and I would take him on my team if the other players were committed to D. But no way in hell do I pay him max money.
Brooks defense is not that bad, unless he gets exploited by taller and heavier PGs backing down on him, and Martin is getting a bad rap on defense for no reason...
Yeah, very nice to have on the team, but not for max money and years. Maybe a new team with guys that believe in playing solid defense could help him. Really just need him to be a good helpside defender. He doesn't seem to know how to rotate over to help in the paint (or doesn't WANT to rotate over). I wonder if teams will view him the same way as Marion.... will he be as productive in another system without Nash?
I agree with you RocketRed94 Some on here think we need 5 lockdown defenders on the floor. There are only a handful of those types in the league. In the NBA, nobody can truly stop another player one-on-one. Espcially the really good players. We just need guys willing to put for effort to make their guy work for a shot and rely on teammates to help. That is all one can do. A good offense beats a good defense any day of the week and twice on Sundays.
Bad summer for the Suns. No surprise there. If Riles can get Bosh instead, Amare won't go to the Heat.
I agree Brooks is not that bad. But his size prevents him from being very good. And I think Martin deserves his reputation. I remember some statistics guru had him as one of the worst defenders in the league.
Yet most of the past 15 years have been won by teams who would be considered one of the top few teams in defense in the league of that year... yet in most cases outside the top 10 in terms of offense. Sure you need some offense but we have plenty already without risking our D any more. Sure if we could add Amare for nothing I would do it but hes wanting MAX dollars and hes not worth that with his many negatives when you consider to get him we would be giving up assets in a sign and trade.
Brooks is not a good defender, but I would argue he does care about defense but is limited by his size - in distinct contrast to Amare who should be an All-NBA defender but won't. The latter is obviously worse.
Is it me alone that sees him actually tries to play defense this year? Obviously his not a good defender, but the way you guys are putting it, it sounds like his the worst defender in the game.
Let's stop with the Amare-to-Houston hypothetical. If he had ANY, and I mean ANY wish to come to Houston, he'd have been a Rocket last trade deadline. But the guy won't sign an extension then, so Morey passed on the trade. I guess this raise the odds of Bosh coming to Houston maybe 1%. Basically the tiny chance that Amare goes to be a sidekick to Lebron/Wade and leave Bosh out. Please list me these "most cases" please.
