    People who recommend, "Just retrofit your service station so that people can't come in and can only purchase items through a bullet proof window" don't stop and think that probably costs 10s of thousands of dollars to do and these Kwik-E-Mart owners aren't exactly rolling in money. They are poor immigrants without great access to credit facilities and/or expensive credit facilities most likely.

    This narrative is what allows people like you to say any prominent black individual who disagrees with you is successful because of affirmative action. That's a you problem.

    The reality is affirmative action even if I disagree with it in principle only applies mostly in tie breaker scenarios were fringe candidates of equal qualifications exist and you need a tie breaker.

    As a child of South Asian immigrants who know a lot of individual small business owners of convenience stores(ya unfortunately this stereotype exists for a reason) most of them aren't poor and actually very well off especially from their country of origin.

    It’s not just gas stations but small convenience stores. That’s what sparked a lot of the tensions between Asians and the black community back in the 90’s. Many first generation Asian immigrants were willing to open stores in marginal neighborhoods that were overwhelmingly black. On top of problems with crime Many of the long standing residents resented them as interlopers.

    Yes it’s not cheap. Defending yourself in a murder charge and having your store torched because of angry protest isn’t cheap either.

    One of my clients is an Indian immigrant who has built up his business by buying and running hotels. He’s been running into issues with a property in very rural north Minnesota. He will talk about how he feels the local white population is racist and that they’ve threatened his family and vandalized his property.

    In Northern Minnesota? It is very possible if not probable. There are some areas, especially in the Midwest and Pacific Northwest. I’m a white man and I don’t feel comfortable in some areas in those regions - they don’t like outsiders, especially ones that don’t look like them.

    I’ve been to his property and spent some time there and that is the most MAGA part of the state. I’ve not had problems though.

    I’ve noticed that one thing being a Texan with still a slight accent even though I’m a short Asian with a funny name that tends to put rural
    White people at ease.

    Nobody shoots to disarm/disable because

    1) that's an impossible expectation

    2) you only pull your gun out if your life is in danger

    Not sure why so much of the Convo is focused on the circumstances of asian store owners in a thread about the murder of a black boy. This dude can be rich or poor and it wouldn't make any difference to the murder.
