Bonzi has not been guarded by a smaller guards in months and his post up game has become really bad. Tonight 5 post ups = 3 turnovers and 2 badly missed shots. And the last few games he has been awful on the low block. Not to mention the offense stagnates when Bonzi is posting up. On the flip side, he is great as a slasher and finisher cleaning up the glass, just do NOT post him up anymore unless there is a "mouse in the house". DD
This seems pretty reactionary to me. What I'd much rather do is stop kicking it out to Bonzi for long jumpers...
Ok, add that too... He is just not finishing well when he is asked to create, when others create for him, he has been nails.... I just want him to fade into more of a slasher and less of a post player. DD
ACtually early in the game he made a great move but missed the layup, I think one of the Rockets cleaned it up(hayes maybe) but he got a good look at it. Granted, thats not the norm. He is OK at attacking the basket from the wing though, got lots of free throws that he uncharacteristically hit tonight.
Agreed... its actually his first step that is his best offensive move. Problem is, defenders start sagging off on him, daring him to shoot or back it in.... and he gets sucked into it, or has to pass. I do stand by Adelman having Bonzi come off the bench... he's a good change of pace guy, and is one of the only players we have who can create his own shot.
I too like him off the bench but watch the offense with him on the low block it stagnates, and he is just not finishing. DD
Bonzi's rhythm is still a little off, he will get better after all star break and become a beast in the playoffs.
I notice that everyone in this post is commenting on Bonzi's offense. This season, the Rockets do get an offensive boost when he's on the floor. They also take defensive damage that more than outweighs his offensive contribution. Check 82games or my stats post, or any of the games in which he had 5-6 turnovers.
Come on. No matter what, we need somebody to attack their basket. That will attract some defense and give 3-pointers a chance. And he can get somebody of the other team in foul trouble. I love Bonzi, this year.
He also gets to the FT line better than most guys on this team.. too bad he's not shooting the FT's like he should (but he is improving). And, another plus... he is an answer we can now throw at teams who decide to go small on us. In the past, we didn't have that type of player... hell, now we've got two "undersized" guys who can play bigger than they are (Brooks and Bonzi... Killer B's.... Book it).
But he was NOT posting up, he was attacking off of a pass or cleaning up on a rebound. THAT is where he is most effective. DD
