If the Bulls gave one to Jordan, the Lakers gave one to Magic, the Jazz gave one to Stockton (and Malone, later), where is the Dream Statue in front of the TC?

They decided not to do it at the Toyota Center because Hakeem won the championships at The Summit.

It has to do with Hakeem's religion. He doesn't want there to be a statue of himself. That's what everyone said last time we talked about this, at least.

Does Islam prohibit personal statues? Sadam had one... ok, bad example.

A Statue of Hakeem would be the most un-Hakeem thing I could think of.

LOL! Trying to find a loophole, ehh?;)

No, the whole thing is Hakeem asked a local religious leader about that and he was advised that building a statue goes against the teachings of Islam because it glorifies him in a way that makes him seem almost like an idol, which is against the Islamic principle of remaining humble.

And as a poster here had already said: that is the most un-Hakeem like thing if you knew him as a person.

I really admire the Dream's demeaner and his approach to the way he handles his fame and glory. Most retired former superstars are usually trying to find ways to keep their faces on TV, their name on somebody's payroll or making horrific attempts at entering the coaching scene (Ewing). The guy is living a quiet and peaceful life, making his best attempt at being an ordinary person. He doesn't consider himself better than anybody, he is exactly what this world needs more of.

I find it absolutely disgusting the reason the last time we heard his name in the media was in a story linking a Mosque he donated money to having ties with terrorists. Although he obviously had no knowledge or involvement of any kind with the terrorists themselves, it is terrible to even have his name associated with such a thing. The guy deserves better than that.

What about a statue of the entire '94 championship team with Hakeem prominently displayed in the center? Maybe replicate that picture when he invited all his teammates to hoist up his MVP trophy with him.

How about a statue of all the championship players on the bench getting up as if they saw something spectacular on the court. The only player missing will be Dream. But you know what that means.

I think a statue of Rudy Tomjanovich would be fitting as well. He was with the organization for over thirty years. Not only did he have his jersey retired as a player but he coached us to our two championships. RUDY! RUDY! RUDY!
