Not sure if this topic has already been posted --- its tough keeping up with the daily posts! In any case, I caught a fleeting glimpse of TWO commercials for Reebok featuring Steve Francis (I'm 95% sure - I live in Minneapolis, don't get to catch so many Houston games, but pretty sure that was Franchise. He is with Reebok, right?). The commercials have an "ER" type of theme, with Steve as premier surgeon. The first one has some 'baller brought in for treatment. Diagnosis: "black hole-ism" - although he's something like 42/48 from the field. All are very concerned, but when Steve gets him alone he assures him that its ok to dominate - if you got game than hell yeah, shoot all you want. My description is somewhat impoverished, but the ad is pretty hilarious. Not sure I like the message though. From all account, Steve Francis is the consummate TEAM player. The association of Steve w/ being a ballhog seems a little ill conceived to me. Second commericial? Not sure. Something about having to remove a shoe from a body cavity as a consequence for lack of game (?) You folks in the Houston area may have already seen this, but thought it might be of interest. I heard a Steve Francis commercial on the radio today. I think it was on 97.9. Francis was sayin' how bad players will never disappear, but you can get them to stay off your court if you are wearing Reebok Blacktops 'cause that'll show that you have game. And you shouldn't wear them if you suck. I liked it ------------------
I've seen both of the commercials you mentioned...the second is pretty lame...not funny at all, imo. The first seems to be getting plenty of play during the playoffs. Old School ------------------ Just Build It!
Yeah i saw bothe the commercials, they are blasting them on BET since the other actors in the commercial are from BET. The Black-hole one was OK but the Shoe removal was over mah head. Still cool that Stevies getting his name out there. So far he is the EA sports spokesperson for their NCAA game and theres his Reebok commercials. Am I missing any others as I live in Ca? ------------------ "We need to fockass".....Dream back in the day
I also saw his commercials, very funny and cool. May 26th is when Stevie's new Blacktop 55th mid hits the shops too. ------------------ THE DEAN HAS WRITTEN
Ah curse you people, you guys made me think the shoes were already out. I was freaking out cuz I couldn't find a single store with them, and then finally someone tells me they ain't out till may 26. Man I feel stupid... "Blacktop 55th Mids", is that the shoe name? ------------------ Check out the new and improved Draftsource.net
There's also an ad in the newest ESPN the magazine going along with the same theme. A player had his ankles broken & stevie is the surgeon. It seemed OK, but I really didn't get the whole idea. It would have made more sense to me to had stevie breaking his ankles! ------------------
There's a website that has lots of commercials for you to view in Quicktime format. www.adcritic.com. I suggest we bombard them with requests for Steve's new commercial and see if they put it up. I already sent them an email (requests@adcritic.com). ------------------
Rocketfan34, yup the Reebok Blacktop 55th mid, they come in black/grey/white or black/white. Footlocker, Eastbay, Footaction are the only places that will have them too. At the Reebok site the ceo said they will be using Steve to plug all of the new Blacktop series shoes. ------------------ THE DEAN HAS WRITTEN [This message has been edited by DEANBCURTIS (edited May 25, 2000).] [This message has been edited by DEANBCURTIS (edited May 25, 2000).]
The Black/white Stevies have red and blue outlines, sole and the name DMX is also in red and blue. ------------------ THE DEAN HAS WRITTEN
Is there any place on the internet with pics of the black/white Stevies with the outline in Rocket colors? I have seen the black shoes, but I was thinking that the black/white ones might look better. Also, are BOTH colors coming out tomorrow, or is just one? I've seen many times where they just release one color of a shoe on the original release date but in the weeks to come make many different versions. Is that the case here, or will both be available tomorrow? ------------------
The pics of both the shoes where in the Francis issue of Slam, but at the reebok site under the ceo spew on Franchise there is a pic of the black/white ones. ------------------ THE DEAN HAS WRITTEN
Dean- What do you click on when you first get to the reebok site to see the black/white shoe? I know it may be obvious, but I haven't found it yet, and I'd like to see what the other version of the shoe looks like before I buy one tomorrow. ------------------
That sucks. I swore I would never buy another pair of Reeboks (i find they fall apart in a month or two). I want some but not if they are going to disintegrate after a couple of hard games. Foiled Again! ------------------
In case anyone is wondering, Stevie's shoes will be selling for $84.99. I saw them on display yesterday at the Footlocker in the Galleria (Dallas). ------------------
Here is the speech the ceo has at reebok.com ------------------ THE DEAN HAS WRITTEN [This message has been edited by DEANBCURTIS (edited May 26, 2000).]
