From ESPN The Magazine: Steve Francis may become even more of a headache to opposing teams. After drastically reducing his salt intake, Francis reports that his migraines have subsided. "I'm feeling a whole lot better, man," Francis says. "And I know I'm eating healthier than a lot of players."
Translation: now that we have a great lottery pick, I'm feeling a whole lot better. Miraculous recovery! Just kidding. One of these: It's true, though. I had a health problem and when I cut way back on caffeine and sugar, I got better. Not yet 100%, but it makes a difference.
You can't judge it right now. It could be because he's stopped playing. I hope so, but I'm doubtful....
Yeah. Steve is going to have an awesome 2002-03 season. If he is completely healthy, he's going to tear it up and lead us to the playoffs!
He could have minor surgery to have the nerve in that ear cut and he would not have to cut down his salt intake at all. DaDakota
My wife used to get migranes when she was younger, and still gets bad headaches sometimes. When she gave up caffeine for a while, her headaches got a whole lot worse. When she started drinking diet cokes again, they went away. She tells me that caffeine makes it a lot better, and that Exederine Migrane is loaded with caffeine. Help us out, Doctor Robert, with some more free medical advice.
Both of the below are strictly hearsay. I heard that the low salt was recommened earlier, but Steve did not want to do it because it cramped his lifestyle. JBC, I hear that when you quit caffine, after taking it for a while, you get headaches as a withdrawal symptom. How long that lasts, I don't know. Cokes are loaded with cafine, perhaps your wife did not stay off long enough.
That is absolutely true. One of the withdrawal symptoms of caffeine is intense headaches. I gave it up and they lasted about 2 weeks. CK
Da: Severing the nerve in the ear can have fairly complicted results later in life. From what I've read, it CAN (though not always by any means) lead to hearing loss. In addition, cutting the nerve can be dangerous for some patients with re-occurring ear problems because they don't catch the symtoms of those problems early (when the nerve is cut, you don't feel any pain obviously) and they have a tendency of multiplying. Pat: You are close on the "cramping his style" issue. What I heard was that he just simply did not believe it would work. He had been told a whole bunch of different things all of which didn't work and he thought this was the same. It was probably as much frustration with the lack of solutions as it was stubbornness, but it did delay his doing it which isn't good. By the way, caffeine is nasty stuff. Of course, I say that even though I drink it! But, it has been shown to be as addictive (even moreso) than cigarettes. The withdrawl, when you drink a lot of caffeine like I used to, symptoms are BRUTAL!
I've never had a migraine, but I have had plenty of the caffeine withdrawal headaches. I HATE THOSE! If I had migraines, however, and a doctor told me I had to stand out in the middle of the highway in my underwear to get rid of them, well, let's just say that I pity the people who might drive by. I can't imagine someone going through as much pain as Francis not trying any recommendation immediately.
Steve Francis may become even more of a headache to opposing teams. After drastically reducing his salt intake, Francis reports that his migraines have subsided. "I'm feeling a holw lot better, man," Francis says. YES!!! "And I know I'm eating healthier than a lot of players." I love hearing that, too. Stevie's gonna be a beast next year!!
Now I don't mind if the Rockets hand out a maximum contract to Francis. I was worried about how his migranes would affect his future, but not anymore. Now he deserves max.
