he's not out of shape anymore and he should have got a chance in my opinion. I completely understand why he is at the bottom of the rotation and I think he still should be there. I also don't agree with him going public and that's why he got hit back in the media. That being said, James was way off last night. Everyone has now (I hope) realized that he's our primary scoring spark off the bench and his job is to score. He's going to take shots regardless of the timing, his fg%, ect....That's what he brings, like it or not (he was good in the first three games so you can't bash him for one bad outing) that's what you get. However, when he is clearly off and doing that we should put in Steve. You have to make use of your assets. There's no point in having Steve if he can't even get a chance when James is off. Last night I disagreed with a lot of Adelman did though. Yao took way too many jumpers when Dallas was playing with only one center. It seems we only rotate the ball consistantly into Yao with the starting five and then when we mix it up he shoots more jumpers then he gets post plays. I thought the overall rotations were poor and Adelaman should have made adjustments. He let the guys try and play through it and ultimately it cost us the game. TMac is going to have those nights so that doesn't bother me (same with Yao) but anyone else on the court should be subject to change according to how they are playing and who we are playing.
if Steve can prove he can do a better job defending JTerry then he gets my vote. Tonight Steve has a good chance of playing if Rafer, James, and Luther start showing signs of fatigue being the second game of a back to back.
I don't know what he's suggesting, but I'm suggesting that he doesn't play until he cracks the rotation, which just cannot occur 4 games into the season sorry, maybe 3-4 weeks into it.
But Yao made his midrange shots. Why not keep him out high, making shots, instead of making him work down low, potentially having a turnover, just to have the same 2 points? Not to mention, it's easier to drive to the rack without him there. I'm not suggesting he always play up high, but a good mix, much like last night. If James and Wells had just made the shots they have been making, we'd be talking about how we are looking to go 5-0 tonight.
I never said he doesn't deserve a chance. But last night was a lost cause. We plain and simply could not stop their offensive firepower in the last six minutes. I love Steve. I kissed my poster of him every night before bed when I was 13. But playing a guy who hasn't played all season in a tight game like that really doesn't make sense.
It seems to me that just maybe Adelman, who has coached basketball for decades and has actually seen Steve play lately, might be better qualified to make these kinds of judgements than anybody else.
However I agree we need to find someone who can run point and contain a Jason Terry We CANNOT let 04-05 repeat itself, as you recall Jason Terry lit up Mike James and the rest of our PG's in the playoffs.. so judging by last season, last nights game and the 04-05 playoffs I can conclude that Rafer Alston Mike James Luther Head both are very very un-qualified in defending Jason Terry, I think Brooks might have a chance with his great vertical and speed but he's a liability everywhere else for now and stands no chance against Devon Harris We however do need to figure this out, I refuse to see a repeat I'm not saying they arte bad defenders, Rafer I think is a pretty good defender, I'm saying they just can't defend terry
do you play basketball?? do you know how hard it is to defend a player with a great jumpshot thats why barbosa and steve nash are so good
are we going to have a thread on this after every single game??? Frankly, I am really annoyed by people who keeps talking about it. RA is the coach and you are not. He obviously knows more basketball than any of you here, that's his job. so stop pretending like you know more than him. He will start Steve when he feels Steve is ready.
No I just scout and watch basketball, Does Morey play basketball? How does he get such great assumptions of who's going to perform well? I imagine it is hard, thats why I look around the league and see what kind of players have in fact guarded Terry decently in the past.. then I make my conclusion. Thats why I mentioned that Brooks could probably guard terry decently, while Francis I don't think could.. I mentioned Brooks vertical and speed as being a lot of help since Terry is so quick and has a great jumpshot. Rafer probably leads our team in steals but has problems defending quick and good/great jump shooters, however he is a great and a sly defender on quick pass-first pg's.
yeah you try to stay in front of the player, don't give him too much room, fight picks like a mug and most importantly, contest the shot
there needs to be a box-in-one on terry, with our best perimeter defender on him....oh wait, we dont have anyone with that classification.
If I was the coach, I'd bench him too for not working as hard as everyone else to get into shape over the summer. I'd sit his butt right there on the end of the bench and make a statement that you don't ever do that again. Course in the back of my head, I know how good he is but I'd make a statement and leave him there for awhile to sulk. Then when I figured he'd learned his lesson, I'd play him again.
