Steve Only Took 12 Shots, and Our Offense Was Aweful. He needs to shoot more.

You guys were saying that Steve shot too much against the Pacers. Steve only took 12 shots tonight, and our offense still was horrible. Steve need to take 20 shots per game. He proved tonight that he can get 20+ points easily. He also proved that our offense is better when he shoots more. He is shooting around 50% pretty consistantly. Why not have him take 20 shots a game?

So you prefer a 28 shot, 9 point loss to 12 shot, 9 point win?

Steve and Cat are the only two real scoring threats. The Nuggets were keying on them tonight. When KT, MoT, Rice and TMo get back it will run a lot smoother. Eddie and Cato have no offense while Yao Ming, Boki and Hawkins are all rookies.

Getting Francis more shots tonight might help, if Francis goes off for 39 tonight the Rockets beat Denver handily. But we need KT and Rice, T-Mo and Mo back BADLY. That's low post and perimeter offense. I mean I saw/heard that team in the preseason and when they were reasonably healthy they had like 6 or 7 offensive weapons to go to. Guys were coming off the bench producing. Now our main bench help is Jason Collier, and Hawkins, Ming and Nachbar. Granted Collier and Hawkins are helping, but KT and Rice and Mo just make this offense so much more balanced it's scary. The difference? This team we have now might win 30 to 35 game. Bring back Mo, KT, Rice and eventually T-Mo and that is a 45 to 50 win ball-club and a balanced playoff squad.

If Steve took 20 shots we would've won by atleast 15-20 points.

I think he did not shoot as much because he was being guarded very well.

Francis has trouble playing against guards that are a bit quicker then him, and Satterfield was on him like glue.

All in all one of the ugliest games I have ever watched, but a win is a win...I would take an Ugly win over a pretty loss any day.

It was a good thing they were playing the Nuggets tonight...

Maybe in this game had steve shot 20 points we would have won more handily. But if you want to win against a real NBA team you need team ball. Our offense tonight demonstrated that more than the offense in Indy.

The game against Indy, it would not have mattered if Rice, Thomas, and MoTay were healthy. It was all Steve.

The game tonight would have been better if we had a full roster because the offensive movement would have brought out all of the strengths of our team

    Big improvement from game 1.

I'd like Steve to shoot between 15-18 shots a game. Now if he could just turn a couple of those turnovers into assists, there's not much more you can ask of him. He's our best playmaker and our best scorer, so it would be great if he could just find that middle ground.

TheReasonSF3 - please ignore the "New Topic" button on the BBS for a while. You're creating too many threads and this one was redundant.

Sorry Clutch. :D. I won't post new threads for a while. I don't know what's with me tonight. I just get a little too excited when we play. I usually don't post a lot of topics, but tonight I went nuts. My apologies.

    Would you prefer?:
    1. SF took 20+ shots and a game loss
    2. A single digit win but big boost on Hawking's confidence 4 blocks from both Cato & Eddie and everyone in the team is contributing.

If Rox let SF and CATO make 75 percents of the total score, Rox will end up a team like 76ers, a losing team... It took AI few years learning how to pass the ball.

If Steve played like he did against the Pacers, we would've won by 20.

Again, we wont beat real NBA teams with the game plan against the Pacers. The loss against the Pacers showed that.

In order to beat a good team, you MUST play team ball.

Will we win more in the short term with Steve shooting more? Yes. In the long run, however, I believe this team will be better if they get consistent ball movement. We might win a few games riding on the back of Steve or Cat alone--or both together. But there's no way this becomes a team capable of winning night-in, night-out until everyone gets involved. Ugly offensive performances will have to be endured until the other capable guys on the court (whoever they might be) get used to actually playing a part in the offense. I'd rather have a few losses here at the beginning of the season with everyone learning to play together than a few wins that we can attribute solely to the considerable talent of our backcourt. I want this to be a good team, and I think it can be.

No. It would have made no difference. The extra 8 shots would most likely have been taken from Collier, Hawkins and Cato. This trio was collectively 9 for 20. We need to establish some inside presence and taking shots away these players is not a good thing.

I am going to try to explain something that I doubt you'll understand but I'm going to try at least once before I give up on you.

Great players make those around them better. As much as I hate the Faker$, Shaq and Kobe never give up on a player. Not Samaila Samake, not Samaki Walker, not Slava Medvedenko, not Mark Madsen and not even Mike Penberthy...if they are open, they get the ball.

Kobe, a SG has 11 assists so far tonight against the Clipps. He has only taken 12 shots in three quarters. If you give your teammates some touches, they will follow you through hell and back..but if you allow them to sit and watch? The entire opposing defense waits, relaxes and conserves energy.

You want to know the only thing I found ugly tonight? The 3 guard offense. (Moochie, Cat & Steve).

I had the Denver broadcast team and I'll tell you what they said.
"The officials are really letting them play." This makes for an ugly game but I love it that Collier and Cato and Hawkins stepped up even during a rough game.

Another comment - "The Nuggets are not going to put up many points this year, but they are committed to going all out on the defensive end" True. The Nuggets are going to fight you from tip to final buzzer.

In addition to the aforementioned characteristics I uphold for a great player, I will add this. Great players recognize that each game is different and you take what is given to you by the opposition and the officiating. Don't force your game, let it come to you.

I thought tonight was a good win. But I fully suspect your going to arm wrestle with me about Francis shot #. In that case, you may be in for a long season. My guess is the Rox learned from tonights game.
