I got this from JONATHAN FEIGEN's article here's the link http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/5382327.html I'm thinking maybe theres a change coming soon, probably a trade or a shake up in the line up.anyways the Rockets need to find some more scoring from some where.
This team lacks a PURE shooter (nice stroke, nice touch, nice technique when he shoots) and we seriously lack that. I think Steve Novak is one of those guys that can hit the mid-range jumper as well as the 3's. IMO, he's one of those guys that can go off behind the 3-point line. Kind of like Vernon Maxwell, Matt Bullard, Matt Maloney, Sam Mack.
I said this yesterday, and I'll say it again. I think that Steve Novak is plenty ready to be called up to play for the Rockets for what I've seen of him in his nine D-League games he played in. I do appreciate how he did everything to make the most of his opportunity to play, but I feel that I can say the same thing about Aaron Brooks as well even though he only had just two D-League games to show the Rockets who he is.
As they should be, light a fire under our lackadaisical superstars and super deep bench players. I do think TMAC dogs it when Steve is in the game, that is unexcusable on Tracy's part
Can you give us a scouting report of how he performed down there? Particularly on defense and rebounding. Thanks, DD
The Rockets are clearly in desperation mode, and they should be. Anybody that doesn't believe that is a hopeless homer. Unless Novak has suddenly learned to shoot during real NBA games and can do more than wander around like he doesn't know where to go, I don't expect much from him. Maybe he will be a surprise.
while he's at it, could morey please bring malick badiane over? i've seen a couple of players in the d-league with way better numbers than what they had in the german bbl...
although we do look desperate I was actually contemplating this move last night................the rockets need a shooter out there on the floor..........it couldn't hurt any.........
This is a low risk situation. The Rox really need a spacer for Yao to operate. Just the threat of someone able to hit the outside shot should loosen things up for Yao in the inside. Damn I wish I could've seen Yao play in the days when illegal defense was not allowed. That's why it'll always be impossible to compare players from different eras due to stupid rule changes. Case in point, what would Oscar Robertson or Jerry West or Pistol Pete be scoring if they had a 3-point line back in the day? It'll be like Jordan who? All I can say is that I watched a lot of basketball in my life and I could see Yao averaging 35/12/5/5 if the old rules were still in play. Reasons; * He doesn't have to worry about the double-team prior to the catch * Lack of shooters would not be a problem because defenders HAVE to follow their man regardless if they can shoot or not * If double-teamed, there would be a Grand Canyon sized opening in the defense * Most importantly, Yao would have MAX stamina since he won't have to play 2-on-1 through 3-1 constantly through the game. Right now, he has to battle 2-3 players PRIOR to catching the ball. I always laugh at people saying that "he's 7'6 this and that", but they don't realize he plays against 14 footers on a nightly basis (add 2 7-footers).
I'm pretty much relying on stats here but he did average 7.2 rpg (team high) in 39.1 minutes of average PT per game. Although I'm not all that sure as to how well he guarded people, his perimeter shooting is still what the team needs on the floor now even though his defense might be questionable.
Unless he gets minutes, why? I don't see him breaking into the rotation, the DLeague ain't the NBA, he's too slow and unathletic to get minutes unless he miraculously can shoot %50 from the 3 line.
Troy Murphy? He's not a Coach O'Brien type player. Barely has started half of the games Pacers have played so far. Covers both PF & C. Launches the 3s, a good rebounder, but is a bit soft on D. James+Snyder+Hayes = Troy Murphy+pick

Steve Novak can't play. With the exception of Yao, the only players we drafted that can play were traded immediately (Richard Jefferson, Rudy Gay). Whoever we have kept can only play in the D-league.
Agreed Does Novak have an expiring contract that could be helpful? Are we going to do a three for one trade and just need some filler for the bench? The probability of Hayes developing a jump shot is about equal to that of Novak developing a game in the last 9 games. What little chance Novak had of developing is lessened by recalling him from the developmental league where he should have been last year, too.
