Losing him hurt us much more than we thought. In four consecutive games he started dating back to last season, we had a great rushing attack. We were 4-0 in those games. Since he got injured against Indianapolis, our running game has gone to crap.
i was thinking exactly the same thing as I was watching the first half, what happened to all of the wholes from the first two games? i hope something changes quick
People like to talk about AJ and Green. Hell, they even talk about Jacoby. But there's no doubt in my mind that the loss of McKinney has had the biggest impact.
Really? It's not like we didn't have a good passing attack. Schaub threw for 317 yards (season high) and the other Andre had 117 and a TD. On the other hand we had two drives stall at the 1 yard line because we couldn't run the ball. Davis and Walter have stepped up in the absence of AJ. Nobody's stepped up in the absence of McKinney.
McKinney is a HUGE loss, but we also weren't running the ball all that great the 2.5 games we played before he got hurt this season. 109 yards vs. Chiefs (not too bad) 66 yards vs. Panthers 40 yards vs. Colts (McKinney got hurt towards the end of the game IIRC) 90 yards vs. Falcons 74 yards vs. Dolphins (also happens to be the worst run defense in the NFL) 61 yards vs. Jags Something isn't working and its up to Kubiak to figure out what's wrong. Green was out for 2 games but we still had our 2nd worse outing with him in. The pass blocking has been pretty good for the most part, it's really strange since it was the exact opposite last season.
Flanegan is alright. He is a good backup. What we need more than anything is a back with quickness outside the box and not all these slow fellows who run via the run blocking scheme kubiak brought from Denver.
Chris White and Studdard should be seeing time soon. If they can end up being starters, the line is looking decent for the future. Left tackle would still be the main culprit.
Not me, I screamed it left and right and got tired and quit. Everyone just wanted to keep talking about Green and AJ... poor Linemen never get any love. I'm glad others are recognizing it now though. He was the leader of that O-Line. You could tell immediately that the holes in the running game got increasingly smaller. People thought that Dayne wasn't quick enough to get out of the backfield... not true, as you can see in the other RBs. They are all looking for seams to exploit that just arn't there or they close as fast as you can blink your eye. That's why the coaching staff has switched to more stuff that involves misdirection from the line and cuttbacks. Including more screens and trickery... like the reverse. On a side note... the "great" rushing attack led by Steve McKinney dates back much further than those 4 games you listed.
I have heard, and I believe that Spencer may never play OLT again, but may be able to take another spot on the line. Maybe, this is pure conjecture, Winston may be able to switch places with him next year. A lot of teams start their tackles on the right and move them to the left as they become more experienced. Maybe, maybe not. At 6'7" and 300 he is the right size but i don't know if he has the athleticism to play OLT.
I was saddened to read this. The guy played his heart out for us through thick and thin until his injury. I was really hoping his career would survive that injury. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/fb/texansfront/5951262.html Dolphins release ex-Texans lineman McKinney Steve McKinney was an original member of the Texans, and started the first 83 games in franchise history before being sidelined by a torn ACL three games into the 2007 season. DAVIE, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins released offensive lineman Steve McKinney on Monday, three months after he signed as a free agent. McKinney had been competing for playing time at guard and as a backup to center Samson Satele. The 6-foot-4, 302-pound McKinney was a starter in each of his first eight NFL seasons, but after he struggled in 2005 he became a part-time center for Houston. Last season, he started the Texans’ first three games before tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and missed the rest of the season.
dude started to get pissed off after the lineman kept taking the blame over carr's sacks. truth is he was a much better run blocker than pass blocker. he seemed like a cool guy to on his radio show. chester pitts still going, i find that amazing
