WOW, what a game last night. Word is Stephen Jackson will not be re-upping with the Hawks next season (wonder why). I know that JJ is having a great year and all, but S Jackson is more of a pure Small Forward (JJ is really a SG). - Since we all got a look at him last night (actually I saw MORE than I wanted or needed) - Do we think he might be a nice piece to add at the 3? for those who think he will be expensive remember, he was good last year and got offered nothing... Plus he is an H-town guy.
What do you mean, he is from Houston? Despite the signing of JJ, the team did a lousy job last off season. By time Jackson was ready to sign with the Hawks he was going cheap. In fact, the more I think of it the more I just say those fellas in the front office are out to lunch.
He did reject a 3 year $10 million offer from the Spurs before having to settle for his deal in Atlanta.
Despite his lack of handles and poor shot selection at times. Stephen Jackson does play hard and has a knack for hitting clutch shots, it's a rare ability. Unfortunately he's also a headcase which make him combustible -> refusing 3 yr 10 mil contract to play with the spurs and accepting a mil to play for the hawks. Rockets sure can use him for a mil a season though. Definete upgrade over JJ by size alone, a true 6'8" who can guard taller small forwards in the league.
I mean he's FROM Houston... as in born here and I believe still has famaily here: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3210
He would be a nice swingman off the bench. To be honest I was very warry of him thinking Duncan was a big part of his success in SA. But he actually has been playing very well in Atlanta without the benefit of open shots from Duncan caving everyone in. Because of his success in Atlanta I would be willing to look at him for the Rockets, but my guess is his asking price would be too much. I think he would be nice coming off the bench playing the "Pike/Nachbar" role of a 3pt shooter but I dont think he is better than Jim Jackson in terms of starting for this team.
My thoughts exactly, he gets out of hand sometimes and is a turnover machine. We are much better off with Cuttino Mobley. Stuart
He doesn't seem like the smartest guy in the world, to put it mildly, and if he were really that great of a find, then the world champion Spurs would not have let him walk. Good physically but I don't like his intangibles. Then again who else is available? Is Barry that realistic?
SG is jackson's best position though, doesn't rebound well enough at forward. also... he's was good for one night only... there's a reason why he wents years without making the league.
Yeah, and Magic Johnson was listed as 6'9 and as a point guard. Whats your point? Players play out of positions all the time and in positions that may not be their natural positions according to what team's need. Not what NBA.com has them listed as. I don't see him as a small forward, even less so with the Rockets. Not to mention his abilities are something we are trying to get away from. We have enough players that like to dribble and create (and turnover) Anyway, aren't we small enough up front as it is? Stuart
No, just saying that height doesn't always equate with position played... which was the emphasis of the his reply to me. Stuart
Sure would rather have given him Pike's contract, at least Jackson is young enough to grow with the rest of the Rocket core and can play defense.
that is actually why I brought it up - he was available last season (on the cheap) and seeing him last night, reminded me that we would have been useful on this team.
