First of all, this is my very first post, and if this has been discussed, then please forgive me. I wanted to talk about Francis' attitude regarding the selection of Ming. Has Francis actually been quoted or is all of this heresay?

And I also wanted to send a special congrats to "TheGreatest", who is a person that posts here occassionally. He received an honorary doctorate today in Mathematics from his alma mater, and soon to be mine, Yale University.

Welcome, Steve. Even Ivy Leaguers are welcome here. :)

As for your question, here's where the animosity towards Steve is coming :

    1) Steve has been perceived by many on the BBS as being the GM and trying to dictate who we should and should not draft.

    2) Steve has been open about not wanting to draft Jason Williams (or any other PG) through indirect comments.

    3) Some people believe that our guards want Odom on this team. Cuttino has even said so. This would imply even by trading the first pick in the draft to acquire him.

    4) People think that our guards are blowhards and should stick to playing basketball.

    5) Clutch (the head honcho and the mastermind behind this website) has said that Francis is pissed because he wants a "proven player" and not just Ming out of this draft. He apparently wants to win "now" and not get somebody that will help down the road. If there's anyone I don't doubt on this bbs, it's Clutch (LHutz is another person I trust).

    5) To my knowledge there has been no direct quote from Steve saying that he doesn't want Ming to be the first pick. I could be wrong, but I'm sure someone will come along and correct me.

    Hang around and post freely.

... and congrats TheGreatest... although there is only one TheGreatest, and that's Ali. :)

    Welcome to the BBS!

And to TheGreatest- CONGRATS!! You are a brilliant man and I am very grateful that I had the privilege of being one of your students when you were at Texas A&M.

Congrats TheGreatest. I honestly believe that is the hardest field to get a PhD in. It is hard to do something new in such an old subject.

Congrats TheGreatest! My hat off to you, sir. Maybe a homegrown 7' 6'' prospect will approach you about becoming his agent. :)
