How many years has Steve Francis played organized basketball (starting from high school)? Bonus points if you can name the schools/teams he played for and the reason he played so few years. ------------------ Visit www.StockSurge.net for your guide for investing and the Stock Market!
I know he only played his sophomore year in high school. The sickness and eventual death of his mother stopped him from playing again until college. In college he played for two juco's (one in texas one in maryland I think) and for maryland. he has played for the rockets during his pro career. ------------------ Someone who is about to admonish another must realize within himself five qualities before doing so (that he may be able to say), thus: In due season will I speak, not out of season. In truth will I speak, not in falsehood. Gently will I speak, not harshly. To his profit will I speak, not to his loss. With kindly intent will I speak, not in anger. -from the Vinaya Pitaka
I'll take a shot at this. He played one year of highschool, JV I think, and only started one game. He stopped playing ball after he broke his ankle and due to the death of his mother. He then went to San Jacinto junior college in texas, and then to Allegheny junior college in Maryland. So that means he's in his 6th year of organized ball from the highschool level. How'd I do? ------------------
When his mother died of cancer six years ago, Francis gave up organized basketball for two years. Francis didn't play high school basketball after his sophomore year. But he would still play an occasional pickup game and eventually grew six inches (5-9 to 6-3. He was offered a full ride at San Jacinto College when he played in an AAU tournament in Florida. After a great year with the Ravens, Stevie then transferred to Allegany (Md.) Community College(probably to be closer to home). He was a JUCO All-American after leading Allegeny to the national tournament. Next he blew up on the basketball scene when he signed with the Maryland Terrapins where I watched a lot of his games due to the 1998 lockout. The rest is history!
I don't know much about the rest of it, but I know he had a spectacular year at San Jacinto Junior College. Hell, where do you think my moniker comes from? ------------------ "Of course, everything looks bad if you remember it!" Homer Simpson
Many of you were correct. Francis played only 1 year of high school basketball (as a sophomore) at Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, Maryland. After an injury and the death of his mother Francis' next teams were 1 year at the Junior College San Jacinto College. He then transferred to be closer to home by attending Allegany Community College in his home-state of Maryland. After being offered scholarships to attend some of the nation's top basketball schools, Francis make a commitment to sign with the University of Maryland, if he was not chosen in the NBA draft. Francis was passed over and did in fact play his Junior season at Maryland. Add in 2 years in Houston for the Rockets and you have a total of 6 years. ------------------ Visit www.StockSurge.net for your guide for investing and the Stock Market!
I have another Francis trivia question if anyone would like to give it a shot. Why does Francis rub his tattoo right before he takes a foul shot. I'm almost positive he still does this (I know he did this at Maryland and it was well-documented). I believe his tattoo is on his left arm. ------------------ Visit www.StockSurge.net for your guide for investing and the Stock Market!
Isn't it because his tat is a cross with his mother's name on it (Debra?)? I think Bill Worrell mentioned that last year. ------------------ The best is yet to come. Go Rockets!
Im not sure what carlos sister name is. But I remember that Carlos was this close to leaving the nba for his sister but she died before he was going to help her out. I dont remember what it was but he was donating something to her. ------------------ "Break off the block like Maurice Green" --- Steve Francis President of the Moochie Norris fan club.

Alright, thx FrancisFan, now we got it. Now there's some trivia teamwork, and we didn't have to use google...lol! Rene it is.
I'm not a fan of Deer Park, Texas, but unfortunately since I've moved here from Oklahoma when I was ten (I'm 20 now), I do have some pride for this crappy town. I would love everyone to show some respect to the suburb smashed between La Porte and Pasadena for bringing Sam Cassell from San Jacinto, Steve Francis from San Jacinto, and Andy Pettite from Deer Park high School. Even though I hate this suburb, it is my home as of now, and I do have some allegiance towards it city limits and thus give a clutch city prop too the 3 people I mentioned in establishing it as a profitable suburb of Houston in regards to Sports. ------------------ -jbond77
Alright, jbond! I am a Deer Park native myself. I currently live in Dallas, but I still have a bit of a soft spot for good ol' Deer Park and its wonderful views of all those breathtaking refineries. I regret that I never saw Sam Cassel play at San Jac, but Steve and Sam are not the only San Jac players that have graced the NBA floor. If I were at home (rather than work), I could look at one of my old programs and tell you some more. ------------------ "Happiness is a journey, not a destination.
