this unbridled devotion to stevie franchise reminds me of the similar "the backup QB is the most popular guy in town" syndrome that infiltrates football fans all over the country.

with our starting PGs rafer and MJ stinking up the joint, all of a sudden stevie franchise becomes the most popular player on the rockets.

people, if you watched his play in NY, he was horrible. trust me, i witnessed many a game at MSG where stevie was just a shell of himself. he didn't play D when he was here in houston, and he didn't D it up for the NYK. he gets burned by PGs and is too small to guard the 2. he can't hide anymore.

why waste time with the franchise, what does he bring to the table? if anything, i saw we give aaron brooks a shot and go along with the Tony Parker infatuation that this guy is so darn quick that he creates matchup problems for the opposing team.

Ah yes. This is a good comparison. Most fair weather fans fall victim to this syndrome. When the starter looks bad they always think the backup is the answer. I always assume they both suck...

Except he is a 3 time all star that is younger than both of the other point guards.

McCown over Culpepper (all-star)? 2 year age difference...
Francis/Alston is what 1yr difference? Age doesn't factor in either instance IMO...

I'm just playing tough though. I see your point. We all want Francis to succeed. But in the end we are 6-1 and Francis looked lost all preseason.

Do you know why he didn't play D in NYK?
Only buy this way can knickers buy him out and he can go back to Houston.
Do you understand his love for Houston and Rockets?
People like you will never understand the truth of loyalty and love.

Then Rafer is like Drew Bledsoe who the fans were clamoring to replace, but the coach stubbornly kept in the starter's role until it became untenable.

To his credit there were no plays in preseason.

Seriously this is getting tiresome. I hope Adelman would just get Steve to play one game to show everybody how he's doing. If he does fine, then hey, more power to us. If he does horrible, then that'll shut everybody up once and for all.

I wish they would just cut Steve now and get it over with. He's becoming a distraction. This team is just fine without him.

Seriously, all this steve talk has to end. He's on the downturn of his career, with injuries and poor conditioning. He's never gonna be the same player that he was before so stop pulling this 3 time allstar crap out. Is he one now? No. I can understand the whole plug in the rookie to see what he brings to the table talk but steve IS WASHED UP anyone who has actually watched a knick game in the last two years can tell you that. There are two things adelman is trying to emphasize with his point guard: dont turn over the ball and play defense, steve does neither one of those. I think steve should be cut and we should bring in another versitile 4 (mike harris) or give landry a shot because we dont need anymore guards. I find it ridiculous at the level of how much you guys complain about rafer when the rockets win when this guy starts. Im not saying they win because rafer is a superstar, he just knows how to run this offense, where to give everyone the ball and how to protect the ball when we absolutely need a possession.

So maybe JVG was right all along?

I don't understand this obsession with having Steve Francis play. He has shown nothing this year to indicates he is better then Rafer Alston or Mike James. The coach said he came into camp badly out of shape and made the decision to play the other two and put Steve at the end of the bench.

We have a new coach, new system and are 6-1 and yet we still get the same knee jerk reactionary threads we have gotten for the past four years.

I can't honestly say that I am not suprised by this....

He was an all-star SO LONG ago. When injuries hit, a sour attitude worsens, and the burning desire to prove something is gone, you get a player that is no longer who he once was. I'd love to see Francis be in the role Mike James is in, but if he was a better spark than James, don't you think he would be in? Aside from what we see in the game, the coach and players see it in practice and know if he's ready. Obviously he is not. It's not a coincidence that Bonzi is in great shape and getting some PT. It's because he's motivated to do so and has earned his time. If Francis gets motivated, learns the offense, kills himself to get in shape, I have no doubt he'll see the floor and be effective. If he's relying on being the "Franchise" to get on the court, well he hasn't been that player for quite some time now.

In this case, the backup QB needs to stay on the bench. I guess it would be like going from Tavaris Jackson to Holcomb to Bollinger.
