just curious about general opinion, what circumstances they are brought in is a huge factor too. so for the "right" price, would u prefer to go for Steve Francis if the knicks buy him out, or trade juwan howard for mike james? mikes been injured less i think, they both offer good scoring skills and good dribbling skills, but for me, im hoping for francis, i think his had time away to grow and mature, and could come back to rockets where he had his best years, and play an important role supporting yao and tmac with scoring. what do u guys think?
I don't know why you all like steve so much but in my opinion Mike is better PG and he's better for us
francis winning by a landslide...really? They may both be getting closer to the end of their careers, but SF was characterized by his athleticism which he no longer has, but never by his playmaking or decision making. That leaves a mediocre player. James on the otherside is still a good scorer and still has playmaking skills. Maybe people are just really overvalueing Juan hispanic Howard.
in terms of the player, theres no doubt francis is better. in terms of the cap, getting james for howard's terrible contract is a better deal than signing francis to the MLE.
Sure about that? Howard now has two years remaining on his contract. If we still had Howard on our roster next summer, teams would be knocking down our door. He'll be a $7.3 mil expiring contract. You really want to give that up for a guy Minnesota is just begging to give away?
Steve Francis is a poor man's Mike James. James gives us great outside shooting and good penetration, not to mention he can actually operate a pick and roll, something Francis still cant do in his 8 years in the league. A Francis without althecism is a useless. He can't spot up shoot, can't make decisions, and only penetrates by putting his head down and going at three defenders. Francis would be worthless in a motion offense. I'd pick Mike James over Francis any day.
Francis is better than mike James. The only reason James doesn't turn the ball over is because he shoots it everytime he gets the ball. Even if anyone here thinks James is better, James for one year isn't worth it.
I think that's a strange comment to make right now. Specifically because none of us have any idea who would be a good fit for this team because none of us know who is going to be on this team at the beginning of next season. With the rumors concerning Artest and Rarshard Lewis and the other rumors that we're shopping Battier, it's clear the Rockets are trying to revamp the team for Adelman's style. So who knows, even if they aren't a good fit for this team now (which I consider very debatable), they may be a good fit for this team come next season.
Mike James' contract sucks too. And if he doesn't ever play like he did in Toronto again, he's a bust. But this team desperately needs someone to play 1, and if I remember correctly (and I do), Mr. Francis loves those turnovers. And since neither's not an option (this team canNOT afford to go another season without an upgrade at the 1), I go with James.

Holy crap... Best Francis video I've ever seen. It's even better than <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/UkUlsl6ZhJs"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/UkUlsl6ZhJs" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> Sniff... Videos like this make me want to change my mind.
It's been 4 years since Stevie Franchicse got traded, we haven't had a PG that was anywhere near as talented as him (all-star caliber). Too bad JVG wanted him out. Rafer < Sura < James <
The highlight video showed exposed a lot of the flaws in his game. Francis fell in love with the dribble and it just killed the offense. Since he lost his explosive athleticism and his shot has regressed, he hasn't transformed his game like McGrady has. I would still take Francis over James since we would presumably get him for a cheaper price tag and Francis desperately wants to come home.
