He was just on right now. Just caught on late. Some stuff he mentioned: - Understands why the Rockets made the trade but at the same time, felt they should have at least gave him one shot for all he's done for the organization. Says he built the Toyota Center. Calvin says "Ok, we'll I built the Summit." And they both have a laugh. - Says he can still play. 1000% sure. Wants to play at least 4-5 more years. - They talk about the T-mac situation. Steve says he believes T-mac is injuried. Says he should rehab the knee but all the negative feedback is forcing his manhood to show up and that's why he is playing on it. Also mentions that doing this could make his injury even worst like what happened to him when he tried to force it. Basically sticking up for T-mac. Calvin mentions if you are hurt then play but if your are injuried, sit. He reminds listeners that Steve went out and played hard even with migranies. Said he remembers Steve sitting in a dark room then coming out and had to squint because of the bright lights triggering migranies.
any mention on if he would see the court in memphis or if he was going to be waived by the grizzlies?
He said he has been learning the plays the last couple days. He hopes to see floor time in a few days but that it's dependant upon the coach. He seemed hopeful though.
He says he hopes to play within a week. Only been there 3 days but practiced and ran through sets the past couple days.
See my response in the NBA forum. Steve has not matured one bit or learned any humility since he held the Grizzlies hostage when they drafted him. Good riddance.
his attitude is exactly what our team is missing at the moment. fire and passion... especially if he can still play. per steve, once he was in shape he wasn't given the chance to prove it.
Y'all should listen to 97.5 now. Calvin is going off defending Yao. Says the coaching style is holding him back. He'd get more boards if he didn't have to set picks all the time. Puts most of Yaos problems on the system and teammates. Says Yao needs at least 25 shots a game.
Did he leave his fire and passion at home on practice days? He holds the NBA record for most practices missed because of a cold. He is washed up and the last thing this team needs is another guy who thinks he comes before the team. For crying out loud, he told Calvin the he built the Toyota Center. He is STILL using that line.
Calvin says some idiotic stuff. If the Rockets force fed Yao for at least 25 shots a game, their offense would die and Yao's career would be guaranteed to be shortened. Yao couldn't come close to handling that kind of load over a full season.
based on what was said during the interview, he gave it his all in practice, and was ready... the team decided to go in a different direction. and until the TC is sold to a church, he can continue to use the line.
I wonder if Steve knew that Calvin was disappointed in both his and T-Mac's lack of effort. He has been bashing them both for quite a while now.
So why is it that you automatically take Steve Francis' word? Don't get me wrong, I've rooted for the guy since day one, but why would mgmt not tell the full truth? If Steve was better than Rafer or Head why wouldn't they play him? Is it all a big conspiracy? I think that if he was giving his all in practice and playing better than both of those guys then he would of got the nod. I mean listen to the guy......he said he is still one of the best guards in the league in the interview. Come on. Seriously? Like I said, the guy is fantastic and I love him as a person and what he does for the community but don't tell someone to get out of here when they jab the guy a little. This isn't a Steve Francis Appreciation thread. The simple fact of the matter is his 2nd tenure here didn't work out and he is in a better personal situation as far as playing time is concerned. God Bless the man and his family and good luck to his NBA career.
i think he easily overstepped his bounds when he said he's still in with the best in the league, but it wouldn't take much for him to outplay rafer, aaron, or head. bringing him back last year was clearly a les move. his style may not fit with what RA is trying to do, which could contribute to him not getting any playing time (see chuck hayes). sure we only got his side of the story, but until we hear it from the horses mouth, i'll take him at his word that this is how it went down.
