just watching the few times M jackson is on the court along with steve at the two, it seems to me that steve just cant break down the D or get a decent shot off surprisingly enough he passed back the ball to Mark alot of times or he dribbles, dribbles, dribbles, then settles for a fade away his shot selection this year has been terrible he seems lost out there, but his all arounf game has picked up esp defensively* (except on starbury) i would love to see him break down the D like he did last year on a consistent basis, or take a page out of stephs book ,and take it to the whole everytime and dish out just want your opinion to see if you think steve at the 2, after these few games, to see if it would work
no way it works with steve playing the way he has on the offensive end. he needs to start hitting those perimeter shots and he needs to be able to finish when he's driving to the basket. plus, that leaves our perimeter defense very suspect and undersized (especially stevie at the 2). but if Yao and Cato are down low, that should offset the perimeter defense deffeciencies some.
If you check how bad SF3's jumper shots are this season, we would see if SF3 can play at 2. I am very diappointed by this guy's poor shooting this season. In the past 3 road games, SF3 was totally lost. Yes, SF3 is still all-star PG. SF3 definitely can play one or two great game. But he cannot play consecutive and impressive games for ROX. I don't know if this is his or JVG's fault.
I think zone defenses have greatly affected his game.. since getting by his opponent doesnt mean a clear lane to the rim. J
Tracy McGrady acknowledged that the zone defense affected his game too. He's a scoring guard like Steve. However, Tracy has improved on his outside shooting. That's an area where Steve needs to get way better if he wants to be considered a top guard. I think he's the worst outside shooter among the max contract guards in the league.
On what criteria?!!! Steve does not provide the following which I think is crucial: 1) overall leadership 2) leadership during crucial times 3) selflishness 4) consistent scoring/passing. He has to develop many skills in my opinion to become a true All star point guard. Just bc he gets voted into the ASG doesn't mean he is All star caliber guard.
Watch Steve, tape him, rewind the tape too if you must and then come back and tell me if I am wrong. My observation, if Steve does not have the ball, he does not move in concert with the play. More often than not, he stands and watches. He may wave his hand, calling for the ball, but rarely ever makes the second move to give the ball handler a better angle to pass. Once his teammate finishes with whatever they do, then it is his turn. Once he receives the pass, he holds it for a couple of seconds, even if his teammate has already made the play and created an open shot for him. He waits for a new screen to start a different play and tries to create something else. It is mostly a waste of time trying to create a shot for him. To me this is not the way to play the 2.
