Sorry, I didn't get the exact quote, but he basically said that he was ready to sacrifice points, playing time, whatever was necessary for the team.
he was basically talking about how he will have to sacrafice things to win whether it is minutes, touches of the ball, scoring. That kind of thing.
What? I thought steve was a selfish, no talent, pass first ball hog, non-team player, who would never mesh with Van Gundy and needed to be traded..... ....what's that you say? I should actually listen to what Steve and Van Gundy have to say rather than listen to Dr. Jack or the people on this board? Why would I want to go and do something like that.........
Yeah, but he got most of his points in the flow of the offense and didn't dribble out the clock over and over tonight. I only saw him black hole once or twice.
Exactly! I don't think he'll have to sacrifice anything if he plays within the offense. He'll get just as many shots, only they will most likely be open shots. What a concept! Remember what JVG said during the offseason about Yao not getting more touches, just getting better touches. Same goes for Steve.
Keep up that attitude Francis, even if you only sacrificed your field goal percentae tonight(8-22 shooting).
Good point. If I was JVG I would sit Francis out for the next one or two preseason games to take a risky move. If we win those games, Francis might buy "it" through the results and witnessing teamwork. If we lose, well..........huh......hmmm..... just keep Francis on the bench until we win! Better make sure those teams are scrubs to ensure victories. Maybe Francis would say"It's only against scrubs." but hey it's a start. Ok I'll quit my babbling now and wish you guys a good night.
Hasn't Francis always SAID things like this? Until he actually shows it on the court, this is just spit into the wind.
He certainly seemed to show it last night. I was impressed with the way he gave the ball up early in the shot clock. He did have a few quick shots and a couple of clock shot wasting dribble sessions, but nothing like we have seen in years past. It is getting exciting.
True, but for the first time in his NBA career, he has a coach that will get in his grill if he doesn't back it up. He didn't have a great percentage last night, but like andymoon said, he played in the flow of the offense and got to the foul line all night. They're starting to get it. Once they do, look out. Should be a fun season.
A great sign. An even better sign if his play reflects his words. If Steve turns the corner on this, buys into team play, man we've got a future.
Based on the past, what Francis says does not always match up with what he does. BUT, if he is sincere and follows through, the Rockets will be much improved. Especially, if we can find someone who can shoot over 30%. Except for Ming, shooting percentages on this team continue to be horrific. These are professionals, what is the deal?
the people on this board's point is sometimes people say something and do something else. I've heard these quotes from Steve in the preseason for a few years running now. Put up or shut up, isn't that how it goes?
