The Houston Rockets are certain to move to a new city if they don't get a new arena by 2003, NBA commissioner David Stern said Saturday. here is the link at espn http://espn.go.com/nba/news/2000/0212/353017.html
I think that if you read between the lines this is good news: he said that if a referendum isn't approved by 2003, the Rockets would move. Impled there, is the fact that there will be another referendum. Let's keep our fingers crossed
I think that your implying that Les is going to give Houston another vote. Now Im not saying he isn't, and Im not saying there won't be one or two more. But I look at like this. Why on earth would he publicly fund an arena when someone Like Baltimore will give him one for free. Saving him literally 150 million? Now Baltimore is renown for support of their teams, so selling out will not be an issue. Heck Washington would be in serious jeopardy of losing half their fan base the way they have played for the last 20 years. Add to this the fact that David Stern isn't pushing the measure at all. I think he wouldn't mind Houston losing its Basketball team. And the fact that he states that Houston will NOT be considered for a new franchise would disturb me if I lived in Houston. Why should Les stay? Loyalty? Good Business? More Money? To be known as the Anti-Bud?
Can we say Houston Oilers all over again? This is beginning to worry me. I'm excited about the future of the Rockets with the likes of Francis and all and can't imagine them leaving.
