Ran across this article, thought it was interesting the stand that David Stern is taking against NBA coaches. Appearently coaches should not complain about poor officiating because those refs are "Trying really hard." what a joke. Okay, in this case I do not mind, because he is making an example out of Phil Jackson, who has absolutely NO ROOM to complain about officials. (See last years 2nd Round.) I especially like Jackson talking about KD35 getting "Superstar" calls. Give me a break Phil, those calls have gotten you a handful of rings.... Enjoy...
Can you imagine how ridiculously rich Stern and the NBA would be if they can legally fine fans for ridiculing refs...
Speakign of bad calls anyone see the cavs-bulls ame? The one time Lebron needed the refs to be biased(when Joakim Noah had him in some Krav-Maga looking move after Varajo's intentionally missed free throw) he doesn't get the call!!!! Are the refs mutining Lebron?
I have to completely agree with Stern. Coaches complain to the media to try to pressure refs to give them more favorable calls, and they want to win so bad that they don't care that it undermines the brand. He should stamp that behavior out. Not that coaches shouldn't complain. They should have (and do have) some internal mechanism for lodging complaints about calls. But, for the sake of their business, they should make sure those things are private and that talking about officiating is taboo.
I've got no issues with him tearing apart Jackson, he's been awful for two decades working the press for calls. It's the one thing that really kills my respect for him. And I loved Stern and his mafioso "Try me". What other commish would whip that out in public? Stern has his faults but this specific throw down is a okay by me.
dont like jackson since he has all the superstars that have gotten the calls but I hate stern even more.. this guy is a evil dicatator communist
I don't understand how he has the nerve to complain about KD getting superstar calls as if his entire career wasn't based on coaching players that always get superstar calls (MJ, Shaq, Kobe).
I also thought the charge call against Lebron with less than a minute to go was BS, it should have been a no-call.
wow. I have been one of the most vocal "there is no Conspiracy led by David Stern" advocates, and I have always been against complaining about calls, but there are a few statements that Stern said that really bother me. (taken from the AP article) coaches can't voice their concerns anymore? will they all get Hundred Thousand $$ fines like JVG now? ok Dirty Harry. why would anyone get that impression? oh that's right, consumer confidence in the product eroded when you had referees betting alongside the Mafia on regular season and Playoff games.
You know, it's funny, but yesterday I was thinking about how Stern is too much like a Mafia boss. All of a sudden the salary cap is magically $56,000,000 but the league lost, what?, $400,000,000? Uh, can we see your books? This wouldn't be a swing-for-the-fences way to help the Knicks get Bron-Bron, would it? But in this case, when I read that article this morning about Stern and coaches and the media, I was all for him. Phil Jackson is a very good coach, but the way he performs his annual Jedi mind trick with the refs, by way of the media, is sickening. KD gets superstar calls? Well, Phil has a right to be a little nervous. KD is a flat-out stud. OKC is going to be one scary team soon. But watching Phil Ten-Rings do his dance....If I may quote Bill the Cat, BLARF.
She's my mother. I wish she'd give me some space! J/k. It must be some kind of strange coincidence that she has the same last name as me.
Kind of like MaMakoda. Back on topic, I hate Stern's always sweeping aside any criticism against the officiating. But I like how he put the hammer down on Phil Jackson and Pat Riley. This is one (just one) of the reasons I hate the Lakers with a passion. The Lakers from top to bottom think they are entitle to all the favoritism from everywhere. When occasionally they don't get it, they whine and whine and in case of Phil, works his mind game in the media.
How Phil can argue that a KD gets superstar calls??? He has won a lot of games because Kobe and Jordan got the call everytime. That just ridiculous. what about the kobe on battier dirty foul??
