Kinda reminds me of Monta...i like him....but is he really nba ready just because of a few good games in a tourney? I hope hes the real deal though
He's very small and very skinny, at this point he couldn't handle the rigors of the nba nor could he guard anyone.
He's only a sophomore, so he's got a few years to bulk up. He's 6'3" - which isn't ideal, but it's not a complete mismatch. He's a natural born scorer though. He looks like he was built to curl off screens and bury jumper after jumper. An NBA team could do a whole lot worse than to have him come off the bench for some offense on their second unit.
yeah, I should've said "listed at 6'3". I don't think he's 5'10 though. He'll probably measure out at something like 6'1"ish when all is said in done.
He reminded me of Reggie Miller minus about 6 inches. But then again, that could be a fair description of Shawn Respert. I think he can probably fill a roll similar to Salim Stoudamire or Eddie House. Always a use for guys like that in the league. The curious thing to me is whether or not he can adequately play the point. He plays with another good point guard, so he doesn't really need to (in a way, similar to Luther Head playing with Dee Brown and Deron Williams in college). I haven't seen him play enough to get a sense of how good his handle and court vision are.
Luther Head needs to be replaced. He's tapped out. Curry is the better player. And I bet a 6'10" McGrady could find that little fly anywhere on the court. I agree, he probably couldn't defend me out there but him running off screens and McGrady finding him would drive opposing point guards mad trying to defend us. Think about it. Who would you like taking the shots created from McGrady's pass offs, Luther, Rafer, or Curry? I'll take Curry any day of the week. And he can't be worse than Luther defensively. One question I have though is...........is he really a better shooter than Aaron Brooks? Look at their college careers and who they played against? Brooks last year he shot 46% from the field and 40% from the 3 point line, and won the college 3 point contest. Curry's putting up 49% from the field and 44% from 3, but look who he has played against all season. When he played NC, Duke, and UCLA, his accuracy went out the window. Don't get me wrong. I am extremely intrigued by this kid. Watching him jack those shots in the first two games, he's fearless. And his release is incredible, sick. He can get it off in an instant off the pass, he can create his own shot against multiple defenders, he can squeeze it off with barely an inch of daylight around a screen. And he hits and hits and hits. Reminds me of a slighly slower Chris Jackson when he was at LSU. Anybody remember him? Abdul-Rauf? In case you haven't figured it out yet, I love shooters. I personally believe shooting is the MOST IMPORTANT INDIVIDUAL BASKETBALL SKILL a player can possess. Of course as intrigued as I am with Stephen Curry, I haven't seen too much Longhorn basketball until the tournament. This kid, Abrams, he's another midget that can squeeze the shot from anywhere, his release looks very good to me also. If you reversed Abrams and Curry and put Curry on Texas and Abrams on Davidson, would their numbers be reversed? Davidson's whole offense is designed around getting Curry the ball. Everything else is secondary. Just not for sure how to value these guys on the next level. I think Steph Curry has a place in the NBA. And I am convinced he could really make some hay on a team like ours on the OFFENSIVE END. Just not for sure how much his defensive deficiencies could be covered up. And not for sure if he would be a better fit for us than a bigger shooter like Mike Miller. Of course, we haven't exactly broken out the playbook with Novak and designed any plays for him to pop off screens and get the shot. All Novak's shot attempts are from spacing the floor and standing around waiting for the defense to collapse on someone else. I sure wished we'd design some plays for him to curl up high for the shot or come off multiple screens for the shot. But I haven't seen any plays designed for Novak offensively. If we don't design plays or have the offense so that we can take advantage of great shooters, then why have them? Novak, in my opinion, is a great shooter, not a good shooter like Luther, but a great shooter. He can hit from anywhere falling out of bed. It's a matter of getting him a look. If I was Adelman, I would design plays where screens are set for Novak so that when I put him in the game it would be with the emphasis to get him the ball so he can shoot it, not just use him as a space creator for 111. That's wasting his talent. Dude can pop off screens and hit it all over the place, very effectively. If you're gonna have him in the game and endure his lack of D and rebounding, you should be getting the most out of him offensively. Force the opponent to have to totally change up their defense to stop him, then when they overplay, he can dish to 111 and everybody else for the super easy stuff. Point is, if we aren't gonna get a great shooter shots by setting screens for him, just like Davidson does for Stephen Curry, then don't put 'em on the roster, go find an athlete that can fly around and shoot the open 3 when they have their feet set. Don't tie up a roster spot for an undersized shooter that can hit blindfolded off the wrong foot, fading out of bounds, if you ain't gonna make it a priority to get him the ball. Now.........maybe I can get off my soapbox in regards to how Novak has been used. I just dread next year when we cut him loose and he goes to Milwaukee or someplace and starts lighting everybody up for 20 a night because they actually decide he's an offensive machine and let him run off screens to get his shots. In my opinion, when McGrady is throwing a 2 for 10, he should go sit down, we should bring in Novak to replace him, and let Novak play McGrady's role, get him the ball, and let him shoot or create off the dribble when the defense overplays. If McGrady is throwing a 2 for 10, how much worse could it get with Novak out there instead of him? It's not like McGrady's is a stop defender except for the last 5 minutes of the game. Give him a rest, let him go sit on the bench, catch his breath, relax, and let Novak can about 3 or 4 three point shots and transform the game into a whole different dimension. Then you can bring McGrady back and let him nail the coffin shut down the stretch. We're wasting Novak.
He is actually on NBADRAFT.net's 2009 board as going to the Rockets. At very best he can make it in the NBA by being an average role player. I think he maxes out his talent if he becomes Steve Kerr.
