Ray Allen is not worth 10 million per, if that is indeed the figure. I'm a fan of Allen's but his performance against the lakers in the Finals shows that he is done. He's no longer a great player or even an all-star. He doesnt possess the legs to play defense AND be a real threat offensively without someone setting him up. Perhaps if Ray Allen played with Dhoward or the Spurs, Lakers or Rockets where his primary role would be to just spot up, he could still put up great #'s and be deadly efficient... but with the Celtics, i just dont see it.
He looks like he's in great shape but he's still old and has a lot of miles on him. As the poster above stated he's not worth 10 million per year. More like 10 mil over 2 years.
I was being sarcastic when I said splash but I need to defend against this He has always relied on people to set him up and he just set the record for most 3s scored in a Finals game.
cant blame the celtics....they just make the finals and take it to 7....for two years it's not bad...these celtics got at least, and at most, one run left in them if they avoid injury. After that they need to start rebuilding and that's where an expiring contract like this comes in handy.
While I agree he isn't worth the contract, he played good defense last year. I was surprised at how well he defended in the playoffs. He has always been a spot up shooter, so that doesn't change, but at this point I have no confidence in his ability in the clutch.
Celtics don't learn - they also held on far too long when Bird, McHale, and Parish declined. The Pierce-Allen-Garnett trio is done. Rondo is the only thing keeping them around.
they have no money to replace him if he leaves, so they might as well overpay to keep him. on a 2 year deal its not bad at all. next year he's got a large expiring contract to use as a trade chip.
It's not like they were going to have cap space anyway, so I can't really call it a bad move. Maybe, but what would you have had them do? Tank the next two seasons?
Shaq is done(not to say JO'N isnt) but Shaq is a relegated guy now, who will bounce from city to city[season to season] to close out his career looking for that final ring.
I think it's a fair deal, because it is only 2 years. He would've probably got $7-8m/yr for 3 years from a contender, which works out similar. At the end of this contract, if he still wants to play, it's probably for Mike Finley type contracts. Ends up he will get the same over 3-4yrs, just front-loaded.
