Within seconds after the fumble return, MadMax asked in the Game Thread if anyone in the NFL era ever scored TDs via fumble recovery, interception return and reception in the same season.

I looked up Deion Sanders, and he comes close (1996, but didn't get a INT TD that year, which was his career most frequent TD).

Sorry if it was answered in another thread. Do we have an answer?

and it's the 6th game. Watt might still get a Fridge one yard rushing TD this year, too. And what about a safety score for 2. or Gulp, a throwing TD!

"The fourth-year defensive end and $100 million man joined George Halas (1927), Jay Arnold (1938) and Billy Stacy (1961) as the only players with a receiving TD, interception return for a TD and fumble return for a TD in the same season."

    Also :

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>J.J. Watt is just the 2nd player since the merger with a rec TD and Int TD in the same season (Mike Vrabel, 2005). <a href="http://t.co/jDWN7NDHjH">pic.twitter.com/jDWN7NDHjH</a></p>&mdash; NFL on ESPN (@ESPNNFL) <a href="https://twitter.com/ESPNNFL/status/516302871261110272">September 28, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

(Vrabel's an LB coach for the Texans now)

That was pre-fumble return. Vrabel is not part of the other group.

My question was NFL era. So Watt is the only one

    Right ?

I think that's why they said "since the merger".

Deion did fumble return and reception in one yr and and INT plus other in multiple years. But never three. I think he had a rushing TD, too

Deion also threw something like five passes in his career

And Watt is a frigging DE comparing him to Deion is awesome

I got into it with this 9ers fan on twitter. He said we can't compare Watt to all-time greats because of his missed sack on Romo. He said the greats didn't miss those kinds of plays. :roll eyes:

Irrelevant to your question, heypartner. Just felt like sharing that in a Watt thread :)

I am not sure what is considered the NFL era. Professional football became the NFL in 1922. The four players named are the only ones to ever do it.

I think they meant to say "Super Bowl era"

    1) Olajuwon
    2) Watt

Watt will set the standard on more records like this.

If you mean since the NFL and AFL merger in 1966... J.J. is the only one.

Sanders had 3 interception returns for TD's in 1994 (he won DPOY that year).

Side note: He's also the only person to score a NFL TD and hit a homerun in the majors in the same week. He's also the only person to participate in a super bowl and a world series.

Shows how ignorant I am of football. I honestly didn't know that there wasn't a term of when Stats began...wrt both leagues.

I was a Bears and ND fan because my dad was. I moved to Houston, partly because I didn't like rooting for Chicago and the Bulls. (That's an expanded story) I liked Malone...and Rudy....but of course...Rice

An amazing accomplishment by JJ, and we still have 10 games to go.

oops! I owe you one. Did you see my Deion Sanders quick answer in the thread? I left my computer to continue watching the Rockets/Texan on TV. Bad memory.

So, I owe you one. Want to go to a Rockets game? I live in Boulder and have season tickets that I give away. It's just one, but you sit with CFnetters Dave2000, Kam, REEKO, Naismith...etc.

    Pick a game.

I don't blame ya, the whole city was in pandemonium at that moment.

Yes, I did see your reply and Deion was my first guess as well. While looking him up, I found another pretty amazing fact: he's scored a touchdown six different ways- interception return, punt return, kickoff return, receiving, rushing, and a fumble recovery

Sanders is still the only person in history to score an NFL touchdown and hit a MLB home run within the same week. Maybe next year the Astros can use JJ as a DH during their September call-ups.

I appreciate the generous offer, but I couldn't. I would love to meet other CF vets, but I have a couple of family members who would kill me if I went to a game without them. I couldn't get away with saying "it's a guys' night out thing", and I definitely couldn't get away with saying "it's a Clutchfans night out thing".

Tell you what though, let me know what section the seats are in. I'll look for some nearby seats so my family can join, and that way I can meet up with my fellow Clutchfans before or after the game. Sound good?
