    I have a problem that I don't know how to do and I need some help. I hope someone on here can help me. Here is the problem: Recreational developers are considering opening a skiing area and they are trying to decide whether to open an area catering to family skiers or to some other group. To hlep make their decision, they gather the following info:
    A1=Family will ski
    A2=Family will not ski
    B1=Family has chidren but none in 8-16 age group
    B2=Family has children in 8-16 age group
    B3=Family has no children
    then, for this location,
    P(A1)=.40
    P(B2)=.35
    P(A1|B2)=.70
    P(A1|B1)=.30
    a: Use probabilities given to construct a joint probability distribution table.
    A hint our teacher told us was P(A1 and B1)=PA1|B1)P(B1) and so on for other parts.
    b: Are categories skiing and family composition independent?

    Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

    I dunno about the joint probability, but family composition is independent of skiing.

    I have a math degree. Too bad that I only had to take one class of probability and statistics and I hated it with a passion.:(

    You do know that the P(A2) = 1-.40 = .60 and that
    P(B1) = 1-.35 = .65

    But other than that, no clue on what you need to do.
