I don’t post much, but have been part of the Clutch City community since the 90’s before logins were required to post. Yes, I’m old and like many of you I have been a long time Houston sports fan.

To get to the point, I have already given up on the GS series based on historical data, clear memories and repeated Houston sports trauma. If we win, of course I will be ecstatic and eat crow, but I am already prepared for the worst. Naturally, I'll watch the car wreck live and wonder why I even invest time in it afterwards knowing the predictable outcome and feeling of being utterly dispirited.

Curious as to what many believe is the case for consistent disappointment in Houston sports team? Is it bad luck, lack of attracting top tier talent, poor ownership, pessimistic fanbase(like me) or some sort of mathematical paradox. Looking at other cities(see link) and championships for the Big Four sports demonstrates what I am speaking of.

Yes, we don’t have an NHL team which may draw our numbers down, but the 4th largest city not being on this list is telling in some way. Watching the Coogs go down to Florida this year in the Finals is just further illustration of the Houston curse in my opinion. Yes, the 94/95(30 years ago) Rockets won championships, but we all know what many say about Jordan taking time off and then there were the Astros though many will say the first World Series championship was cheated. Those were obvious huge highs for a Houston sports lover, but they are few and far between compared to friends in Boston, wife from San Fran(thankfully converted her from Warriors to Rockets fan), etc. who just expect their teams to win and they do, often.

Venting here, but wish someone would just make it stop. Losing last night's game with Butler out is just another reminder and it’s beyond ridiculous at this point. Flame away, discuss your theories or better yet lift the curse, please!

If you need explanations then I will give one to you. Steph Curry is playing out of his mind. Dude shoots shots with a defender right in front of him looking at his defender directly in the eyes.

A lot of fan bases feel this way. In the case of Houston though, the curse feels pretty legit!

Now make a list of the total number of seasons played in those cities and compare it to Houston

Yes, good point. Houston franchises are not as old as some cities teams. Perhaps over time we enter the top 10 in terms of championships. One can hope!

Hey Cheetah! Yes, I was counting the 2 Astros championships and the 2 Rockets championships bringing our total to 4. Still seems pretty low, but there's probably a Data Scientist out there who may have better statistics on whether Houston's overall championship numbers are in line based on number of franchise years. It just seems off.

I understand. Of course I do. When did I move to Houston? Uh, the day before Jimmy V became huge.

the championship years? DREAM WAS BETTER THAN MJ IN THOSE DAYS! Disappointment? When Game 6 had the wrong hug. Rox would’ve beaten MJ.

    Woulda Coulda.

I wanted GSW this go around. Necessary. And yes, this series is alive. Houston will move on.

two ‘big’ curses obliterated at hands of Theo. Ime, be our Theo.

    A few items...

*The Oilers would have won at least one Super Bowl had they not played in the same DIVISION as one of the top 3 dynasties of all time. (add in the Renfro call)
Also, the Bills game with Eddy's reprehensible "Prevent You From Winning D".

The Astros were on the wrong side of the blown triple play call in 1980 against the Phillies. Without that and Garry Maddux playing out of his mind, we go on to win it all.
Hinch cost us a WS by not bringing Cole in.

PSJ had NC St beaten when GuyV inexplicably took the pedal off the gas and slowed it down.

    Rockets -

    Ralph got hurt against Boston.

The Cocaine Cowboys blew another great team apart.

Yao went down when we were on our way.

The NBA took a Title away from us against GS.

Things happen...facing dynasties, injuries, freaky deals...

As it stands, we've got a lot to be proud of..the journey/ memories, and the hardware.

Those are the breaks. It all tends to even out in the long run.

So much THIS. Swap PGs (Curry and FVV) and this is a 4-game Rockets sweep, and the games aren't even close.

I'm not even a FredHater, but Curry has been other-worldly this series.

How can you give up on a series being down 2-1?

Yes, Curry's wizardry notwithstanding, still feel you shouldn't lose that game with Butler out and Draymond not having his best game.

In the grander view of things, this season has been a massive success
This team is ascending with a lottery pick this year, owners Suns picks and swaps
And the ability to add to an existing youthful core and identity
    This is just the beginning
