    Thanks...

I believe in Post Quality not Quantity

I guess reading Jeff's article about Attendance brought along this little
tangent. Just seeing how the business
side has been pushed onto us as viewers.

Oh well....what are we gonna do...

The only problem with your argument is that players won't get paid less. So the teams in small markets won't get crap for a team like in baseball. Only half of the MLB teams are profitable but they still have to pay up the butt for talent. And markets like NY and LA will go to the finals every year.

The reason attendance is low is because It cost 100 bones to get a decent seat. Thats it. Basketball is still popular, proven by the popularity and ratings of the NCAA tournament. Just lower the seat prices and the arenas will fill up again.

Oh No!! Ticket sales are down!
    Corporate sponsorship is declining!
    What a travesty!

If I want to hear about the viability in a business and increasing costs and declining demand in a product i'll watch CNBC, not sports center.

Yeah Right...I enjoy the NBA more than ever!

You know what I absolutely love is that the league is not as "popular" anymore. I can get a Rockets ticket game day, and odds are that I can move down to get even closer by the second quarter. I'm sick of everyone saying we need to fix the league. The league is fine....what they mean to say is we need bandwagon fans buying more tickets and corporate America embracing the NBA. Bull$hit! I love it....and I hope the NBA never reverts back to what it was a few years back. The trendy thing was to be seen at a Rockets game, now most people there are actually fans that enjoy the sport. Not a bunch of stiffs that are taking clients to the game to close a business deal or a trendy date.
Watching Hakeem leave a defender lost while spinning to the hoop; watching Francis sky to the hoop for a slam over a seven footer gets my blood pumping. I don't need to constantly hear David Stern and all these little businessmen talk about how they need to change things to attract different people.
In regards to franchises losing money, the market will fix itself. As franchises make less money they will pay their players less, because these businessmen are there to make money (most of them). That means maybe you will see players who make a good amount of money but play more for the love of the game.

Every NBA site constantly has critisisms of the league with an exception of CC.net (of course) because if the league and sports are more popular more people will visit and read the MSNBC and the Sporting News and ESPN etc

Personally I don't give a damn about their profits. So the Arenas won't be as nice if the NBA loses its appeal to the everyday public. Big deal, I'll have a better seat. So the NBA won't get primetime coverage, I can handle that i'll spend $20 and get a great seat at the game with other fans who love basketball as a sport, not a trend that was pushed onto us by corporate, consumer driven America....I watch basketball to relax, not to hear about their business problems. I own a company and have to deal with that myself.

I think the only problem with the league is that kids are entering too early based on talent so they are not as refined players which affects their ability to shoot better and pass better. That goes back to Corporate america always pushing for the "Next Jordan" and all the money involved in basketball. Now you can't eliminate the $$$ issues because it is a business, but it will diminish the pressures placed on youngsters by agents and corporate sponsors because there is simply not as much money in the pot.

Though David Stern, Corporate America, Jerry Reinsdorf, Abe Pollin, Michael Heisley and Les Alexander among others may not agree with my stance, its what basketball fans want need. Now this is just my opinion but watching David Stern speak to Iverson at the MVP All-Star Ceremony was disgusting. It was completely fake, and more for the people they want as future fans and sponsors. This is the same david stern that had Iverson's tatoos airbrushed off for a TNT advertisement.

Give me passion, desire and competetiveness mixed with skill, physical prowess and intelligence and I will show you basketball worth watching.
