(CNN) -- On three occasions since January, Sen. Barack Obama's passport file was looked at by three different contract workers, said State Department spokesman Sean McCormack.

The contractors accessed information in the file in an unauthorized way, he said.

Two contractors were fired and one was disciplined by the contractor's company, McCormack said.

He said the contractors are not linked.

The State Department hires contractors to design, build and maintain their systems and help employees with searches. McCormack said two of the contractors in the Obama case were "low-level" personnel and the other was in a mid-level position with no management role.

The breach seems like "imprudent curiosity" among the contract workers, said McCormack, adding that senior management at the State Department was not aware of the incidents until Thursday afternoon. Breaches occurred January 9, February 21 and March 14.

Obama's campaign is asking for a complete investigation to find out who looked at Obama's passport file and why.

"This is an outrageous breach of security and privacy, even from an administration that has shown little regard for either over the last eight years," said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton in a statement.

"Our government's duty is to protect the private information of the American people, not use it for political purposes."

The White House declined comment Thursday evening, just hours after the State Department upper

What company were the contractors working for?

And why is it the last time we heard of something like this it was a Republican administration pulling the records of a Dem candidate?

It was probably somebody on Obama's staff trying to do this stunt and then blame it on Hillary. Obama is desperate for any ammo possible after his racist confidant has been exposed

Huge no-no from the administration. Isn't it odd that the same thing happened to Bill Clinton's passport file when he was running against a different Bush that was sitting the whitehouse.

I don't think there is any real connection, but it's just strange.

I can't believe this was allowed to happen on 3 different occasions, and that Obama just now found out about it. Why did it take so long to let him know?

Could it possibly be that the contractors were looking of their own accord? If they had found something they thought they could sell to the media, then they would reap benefit.

Or it could be that the contractors do not like Obama, and they were looking for something to discredit him.

I think it is a little early to start assuming a larger (government sanctioned) conspiracy.

That's probably the case... but this administration has done absolutely nothing to justify the benefit of the doubt.

I still want to know who they were and who they worked for and why it took this long to find out.

I should also add that with the well-documented politicization of the Inspectors General offices in several other agencies, we should also know what the story is with the State Dept IG and what role they played.

I'd be checking his file too, after his double life has recently been exposed and he is in fact running for the highest office in the land. Heck, the guy appointed a man who literally hates America, to be his closest spiritual advisor. The guy thinks that America planted HIV in blacks and deserved 9-11. This man's words have polluted Obama's brain for 20 years. Obama's wife is not proud of America, and Obama himself has really waffled on his own patriotism. I think he needs a full background check run by the CIA, to be honest with you. Nothing less than a full back is required here. Leave no stone unturned -- America's greatness is at stake.

Can you at least give Kos his proper citing, given that you just copied that from him? Trying to blame this on the Bush administration - how do you know the contractors' motives or even their party affiliation? Oh yeah, you don't - you're lying/guessing

Considering this government has *consistently* politicized the departments of government they've had under their control since they've been in power, you damn well *should* be thinking the worst. They've instructed NASA and NOAA scientists to fudge global warming data (http://www.ucsusa.org/scientific_integrity/interference//news-releases.html), they fired US Attorneys because they wouldn't go after Democratic targets (http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/HL0703/S00474.htm) and outed an undercover nuclear non-proliferation asset to make a political point and on and on. And have any of you forgot that this administration started spying on its citizens? This started *before* 9-11, too! http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=abIV0cO64zJE&refer

What kills me about this thread is that the presumption of guilt seems to be on the victim! Should the government have any right whatsoever to rifle around in someone's records without cause? All I can see is that Obama's crime is being a black man who goes to a church where people are sometimes angry about America? That sounds like a lot of churches that are predominantly white and republican. Are you familiar with Pat Robertson, or Jerry Fallwell, or John Hagee? They have at various points *blamed America* as provoking the wrath of God in 9-11 and Katrina. McCain sought out Hagee's support and *has not disavowed it,* despite blaming Katrina on gays and slandering the Catholic Church. There's a double standard here. I was moved by Obama's speech because it talked about race as if we were all adults and we could come to an understanding together. He showed political courage. I was on the fence about supporting him before that speech. Now I will proudly vote for him.

Obama has *consistently* sought the advice of a racist over the past 20 years. Should we trust his judgement? I don't.

Congrats - you're duped by the Obama deep voice / race card Kool-Aid. He threw his grandmother under the bus, for crying out loud. Why do I need to even hear about race in the presidential election? Oh yeah, because Barack had a racist in a leadership position in his campaign.

    Think, people, think

With all due respect, you and your brother's opinion about politics is a joke around here. Rather than parrot all of the specious BS from Free Republic, or NewsMax just give us a link to those sites and save your time. You can run along now.

I think you missed the part of my post where I said that "I don't believe there is any connection."

But the state department is part of the executive branch. That is under the control of GW Bush.

The people who did it should be handled in whatever way the law deems appropriate.

With that said, there is no apparent link between this and any political party, candidate, or this administration. Obama's tactic of blaming the Bush Administration right off the bat was clearly an attempt to try to divert some attention.

Why wasn't a State Department investigation launched after the first breach of his files in January?
