I've been thinking about this for awhile, and I know you guys probably have wondered as well. I know that Cuttino likes to come off the bench as the 6th man and wreck havoc by being the catalyst, but since him and steve have such good court chemistry, wouldn't you want them to be on the court at the same time? Shandon was lured from Utah, to come and fill our Starting "2" spot. Do you think he'd have that much trouble at the 3? Would we be too undersized to have him start? The reason I feel safe in having Cuttino starting along side Steve and Shandon is that we have Moochie to come off the bench and fill some of those minutes. I wonder how many teams have a 6th-man (being a guard) who is as good as the 2 starting guards. Perhaps I don't find it easy to not give Cuttino the recognition he deserves by starting. Who knows, maybe he doesn't mind not starting. I also know he does get his minutes from off the bench. Give me some thoughts and opinions? Elie17 ------------------
I agree Elie , Cat and Francis would be nice as the starters if Moochie comes in for one of them they can switch positions , ------------------ Dont do today what you can put of until tomorrow
I've wondered for quite awhile what Cat thinks of coming off the bench. I hope that he doesn't care, but I'm not sure. I don't have a problem starting Cat and Shandon. Who's in there at the beginning isn't nearly as important (at least in my thinking) as who's in there at other parts of the game. If we're having trouble after the first couple of minutes of a game and it doesn't look like the small line up is working, make an early substitution. I know Shandon is undersized at small forward, but his defense is still probably better than anyone else we could put there, regardless of size. How many times have we heard that it's all about matchups? But I'm not convinced that the first couple of minutes is that crucial. Why can't those first few minutes simply be used as a time to evaluate what's going on in the game? Some nights the small line-up will work from the start; other nights it won't. But that can be said of practically any line-up. Make substitutions as needed. ------------------
I would prefer that Mobley be used more while Francis or Anderson are resting. They run to many Iso's for him and I hate to waste other players minutes standing around watching Cat play one on one. Perhaps if he developed better passing skills from that set it would work. Otherwise I would prefer to see Mobley come in after 5 minutes and replace whoever(SF, SA, or Walt) is in foul trouble or is getting torched. Eventually they should all get 25-35 minutes a night which would be perfect in my opinion. I just think that it is important to have consistent energy off the bench, and I don't see anyone except Carlos & mobley who can deliver that. ------------------
Cuttino needs to remain the 6th man imho. I am hoping he is willing to stay in that role as his game suits that ideally. Mobley is the ideal player to bring off the bench that can provide an instant offense type of spark. I just dont like the idea of a player alongside Francis starting the game that absolutely needs the ball in his hands to create plays and run isolations. I would feel real comfortable with the depth on this team if Mobley, Williams and Thomas were the anchors on the bench. Thus, the Rockets would need two players to plug into the SL with Francis, Anderson and Cato. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
I would go with a 3 guard lineup if 2 things happened: #1. We nabbed Stromile or Kenyon, somehow, someway. #2. Cato improves If we have 2 VERY GOOD shot blocking threats, Shandon is a good enough perimeter defender, and I think Steve and Cuttino will improve (this summer). Then, if we also got the Phoenix pick, and got someone like say Cory Hightower (a name brought up to me) off the bench, I'd be content. WW backing the SF position, and Hightower backing the 2 (and the 3 and 1 for that matter) and Moochie, with KT backing PF, and Olajuwon helping at center, we'd have a nice future. (Note that Duncan would also work) ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more!
NO. I think Shandon is a perfect fit with this team. He doesn't complain. He doesn't demand the ball. He's a very good defender. But, he's not an everyday starting SF. Believe me, when he came here, I wanted him to be our replacement for Pippen, but he just isn't tall or explosive enough to play against many of the other starting SFs in the league. Under certain circumstances he can play that position, but not every game. He also has expressed that he prefers playing the 2 guard. So, I sure hope we can keep them both. And, keep them both happy. Because, our backcourt looks real good for years to come with: Francis, Anderson, Mobley, and Mooch. ------------------ I have a dream.........his name's Hakeem.
plus.... we need mobley to win the 6th man award next year. ------------------ "When the mind is thinking, it is talking to itself." .... Plato
No, because I dont want Wizard to have to start at PF or C. -WaLTwIZfANcLUB ------------------ Cato is 7 feet tall.
While this may pay off on the offensive end, the bigger smaller forwards would destroy Shandon. ------------------ Rudy's tips on how to win. #1. Score more points than the other team.
