This guy gives them what they need out of the four spot.

    1. Spot up midrange shooter

    2. Hustle

    3. Good Bball I.Q.

Spoon doesn't bring you any of these things. He isn't a good matchup even against normal PF's. I believe if they start Bowen, and bring Padget off of the bench they will be fine.

I don't think he rebounds enough and he probably couldn't hold his ground against most of the PFs in the west.

But he looks so friggin' goofy out there! Last night he was hustling over to the corner to cover someone taking a three, and he slipped and slid into the bench. I absolutely love the guy for his hustle, but he's such a doofus out there. When he and Barry are in there together, we look like a really good high school team. You know, where there's always a couple of 150%-effort guys who aren't as smooth as the more talented players.

Just watching Bowen play gives me a migraine. He looks and moves like he is completely uncoordinated and discombobulated. I love him the results though.

He may look goofy, but he plays good defense, and his jumper has been falling lately.
He does well if the matchup suits him.

he doesn't rebound. he does everything else that we need though.

How much rebounding will we really be missing by taking spoon out of the lineup anyway?

yeah, go ahead and start goofy.

One whitey in the line-up is good enough. If we get too many, we'll start to suck(See: Utah Jazz).

As limited as our options are for PF, I am completely for starting Ryan Bowen for certain match ups.

If you look beyond the goofiness of the guy, he's a really good defender and he's high bball IQ knows what to do on the court.

Errr. Bowen is the best of several bad options. He differentiates himself from Spoon in one key way: he's not completely slow and has some ability to defend perimeter defenders. With Yao and Spoon, we must have the slowest front court in the league. Bowen is completely insufficient, but would fair better than Spoon.

Incidentally, his shot is wildly inconsistent. Sometimes he can hit from 15...but very often...not.

Exactly, he had a good match up with Shawn Marion while that is the absolutely worst match up for Weatherspoon.

Who ever is having a better game between Spoon/Bowen/Padgett will get the majority of the mins in a game. last night Bowen was having a good game (for his standards) so he got the majority of the mins. However, if Spoon is plying good defense or Padgett is htting his 3s then JVG will give them the mins. As long as one of those guys is having atleast a decent game then we might just be ok at the PF position come playoff time.
