Artest had 43 minutes today, and I think him and Yao have played an average of 40 in both games. Artest kinda makes sense considering Tmac is the only other healthy guy that can play 3 reliably and he's the starting 2, although you could throw Head in there for a few minutes at 2 and move Tmac to 3 to give Artest more minutes. There is no reason for Yao to play 40 minutes unless we are playing a team like memphis with 2 7 footers. Anyone else worried?
there is like 3 other threads on this already. but yeah when today's game only had 1 7 footer playing and playing only 28 minutes at that it was ridiculous.
Well, you are taking it to the extreme. Look, we are SUPPOSED to be one of the deepest teams in the league. So why do we have to play our BIG 3 for 40 minutes a game with the exception of Tmac? Tmac and Yao are already injury prone, playing them more minutes makes them more vulnerable to injury and just flat out wears them out easier. You don't have to sacrifice wins to reduce minutes. We were able to pull the game out against the Mavs with Tmac on the bench. In all 3 games with Tmac and/or Yao on the bench we've put the game away in the 4th. And how you pull off less minutes for your stars is pretty simple, stop playing all 3 of them 12-14 minutes into the game. You should take either Tmac, Yao or Artest out of the game (depending on the situation) with about 4-5 minutes to go in the 1st. Then take the next guy out near the end of the 1st, and the last guy out about 2-3 minutes into the 2nd. And if you rest each star for a 6 minute period, that means the first guy is going to end up coming back in right at the beginning of the 2nd, the 2nd guy comes back 6 minutes into the 2nd and the third guy comes back in with about 3-4 minutes left in the half. Its not like you don't have the personnel to make these kinds of subs. You have 2 solid 2 guards (Barry and Head), and for Yao you have Landry. The only time you can't do this is if you are playing against 2 7 footers like with Memphis.
You obviously don't realize how many minutes Yao played last year during a 10 game winning streak (I think it was 10?), he played 0 minutes. Take note before you write down statements.
i think coach knows what hes doing. i think he just wants a garanteed win to start off the season so our players will have their confidence.
1. all players will tell you the best way to get into basketball shape is to PLAY basketball.....for right now letting them play a lot won't kill them, but actually help them round into shape 2. How can Adelman find who fits best with the stars if he sits them down? He's trying to throw diff guys in there around his star players to find who works well with who, let him figure it out. 3. Once guys are in shape and the rotation is set, they should be running on all cylinders and blowing out the teams they should be blowing out and that's when the extra rest comes in. Its also easier to give guys practice days off later in the season because they won't lose much conditioning compared to right now.
Let us sticky this response for the next 15 posts about this very subject. Well said. Adelman has a winning pedigree. His teams have won an outstanding 61% of the time in the regular season. Maybe, just maybe, he knows a little about coaching basketball? Let him do his job.
someone posted a link that says Adelman is force to play Yao and Artest more because of the injury to tmac and battier.
I think playing Yao these minutes is insane. Yao should play around 32-33 minutes. Doesn't Adelman realize that last year, Yao developed a stress fracture because he was playing these types of minutes? Why not go small, and use Landry / Scola / Dorsey more? If Yao goes down again due to a stress fracture, Adelman should be blamed. It's inexcusable that Yao's playing these heavy minutes again.
How can it be,when the Rockets vs Grizzles and Thunder they had done a bad job,the offense is ugly they both won by the defence, while @Dallas they done a good job,so I think the starters played so long (especially Yao & Artest)due to the offense, and Adelman want a guaranteed victory,I believe once the offense is better status,Adelman will decreasethe starters time,40 mins is insane, that will run out their energy
True, however, if this trend of excessive minutes continue our players won't be fresh for the playoffs. Those are the games that count.
