Im watching return of the jedi on cinemax right now. and i have a question, i thought in watching the movies before that its been stated that there can only be two siths. If that is true then why does the emperor say to darth vadar that luke will come to them and that they will change him to the darkside. at the end he then tries to get luke to kill vadar. i dont understand why he would say that to darth vadar if there can only be two siths. very confused.
He is evil and he lies. He got screwed with Vader cause he is much less powerful than Sidious first planned. He is trying to swap Luke for Vader.
i understand that but why would he even tell vader that. if there can only be 2 siths then what would be the point in telling vader that. wouldnt vader say "dude what the... are you trying to get rid of me or what" or something like that
the empero sees that luke is younger and will become more powerful than vader...He expects Luke to become his new apprentice.
Vader also has his own intention of getting Luke to join so they can throw over the emperor TOGETHER. Vader isn't stupid... he makes emotional decisions when it comes to his family (see padme, mother, luke). He plays dumb to the emperor that he has no real connection to Luke at all, whereas all along he's planning on luring Luke himself once he gets the chance. The emperor's only misjudgement for the ENTIRE saga (both prequel and OT) is his underestimating Vader's attachment to offspring/family... which is odd since he obviously knew he felt strongly for Padme (and used it against him), and felt strongly for his mother (where he first showed extreme anger/agression/path to darkside). I guess he was hoping Vader would look at him more like a dad... he was wrong.
ahhh thank you it makes sense now. he was playing along. but if you think about it, if indeed there is only 2 siths at one time then it still doesnt make sense in telling darth vader that. but thank you it does make more sense now.
its cause george lucas can't write worth crap.... he can't really direct either, but the talent level wasn't the best. though his idea for this saga is/was awesome.... having trashed it, allow me to give my thoughts. anakin (vader) is the savior, though he turns to the dark side he ultimately turns back and does away with both sith lord and apprentice at this point (as mentioned in episode 3 by obi wan). the emperor wanted luke to kill vader and turn to the dark side thus eliminating the apprentice (vader) and become one himself.
the entire series has major plotholes and other things that dont make sense chewbacca actually knew Yoda, but never mentions him. vader never thought to look for luke at his brother house? padme knew anakin had just murdered an entire sandpeople village, yet doesnt do anythng about it and continues to be with him. the entire fall of the republic is the fault of qui gon ginn. he should have left skywalker on that plantet. yoda knew the kid was bad news.
Without Anakin, the Sith would never have been destroyed. Chewy can't even speak English, so he can't mention Yoda. I will agree that there are some plot holes..too tired to bring them up.
I never caught on to Star Wars. I don't really care for it or get the obsession. However, I do play Star Wars Battle Front games. Those are damn fun.
The Force works in mysterious ways.... Padme couldn't act, so she died. Anakin was a worse actor so his limbs were chopped off and was burned alive. They were all suckers to "prophecy". Qui gon was right, though. Not only did Anakin reverse the force, he turned it overwhelmingly to the light after Return of the Jedi...
I don't think they ever cross paths in the second movie (Luke is seperated from Han's crew for most of it) and in the third...well, they still don't cross paths. Who would he talk to Yoda about? I'm trying to remember (been a while since I've seen them) if this would have ever come up. He thought Padme was dead. Having lost his mother, killed his wife, betrayed his friends, had most of his body seared off and replaced by metal, and about to set out as a Dark Lord to kill the remaining Jedi order and rule the galaxy, I doubt looking up old family members really would have come up. Don't know what she knew of the sandpeople (did she come across them in the fourth movie? I don't remember) but most of what we ever saw were some sort of creatures that howled and shot at you. Not exactly easy to picture the rest of the village. Besides, at that point in the movie Anakin is starting to lose it and I'm sure there were more than enough problems to deal with. Pretty much. Though I do like (even though I think Lucas' writing is pretty poor) how the movies showed a lot of different factors that led to the creation of Vader. The death of the mother, Palpatine's manipulations, the Jedi's rigid sticking to their 'rules'...lots of things that f**ked Anakin up. I can't help but think that in the hands of a kickass director/writer combo, the side stories of the series (such as the supposed TV series showing Vader hunting down Jedi) would be pretty good.
I'm not quite sure about whether the law of only-two-sithes actually holds after the jedi had already been defeated. I mean, wasn't part of the the goal of the master-apprentice rule to conceal themselves from the jedi?
godamit i cant sleep, so ill post another one. are the storm troopers , the same as the clone troppers from the prequels? THE clone troppers are clones, so are the storm troopers just regular conscripts? if so why did they stop using clone troopers and switched to using storm troopers? i ask this because i noticed some were taller in the original trilogy. that shouldnt happen if they are clones. in return of the jedi, the death star is protected by an energy shield that is transmitted from the nearby endor moon. that seems kinda stupid. couldnt they have just sent a ship to bomb the bunker that was transmitting the shield, instead of sending a team to take it out? one x wing could have done it. why did luke allow himself to be taken, when he was convinced vader wasnt gonna repent? the part where he "then my father truly is dead?
