Long story short: I've been a Trekkie since the 70s. Star Trek: Prodigy is an animated kid's show but I'll give anything associated with Star Trek a chance. Prodigy's opening season was pretty good, but Paramount+ cancelled it in a cost-cutting move shortly after S1 ended. Then Netflix stepped up a few months later, bought in and re-released S1 late last year. Netflix released S2 last week and hit a home run. S2 is a quantum leap over S1. The artwork and vibe are completely different from Lower Decks, but it's very watchable for adults. I promise you it captures all of the best elements of Star Trek. I suggest giving it a shot.
I only 1 episode in on season 2 so I wasn't sure I kind of bored with the Rule breaking is the best policy ideology they seem to love (Started with Micheal Burnam and Capt Kirk) but I have enjoyed the series so far Rocket River
Thanks for posting, I've been a big Trek fan all my life and was curious about this. Heard it really picks up and turns into a pseudo Voyager sequel.....
should be the titles of the next 10 marvel movies tbh. captain murica: apology four fantastics: my bad thor 5: sorry for that avenger 5: yo that's on me
Not a fan of Kurtzman Startrek, but did give the first season a chance. It was okay for an animated show (more watchable than Discovery) but totally forgot about the canceled second season. Nice to hear the last season is decent but with P+ losing 200M, won't get to see much like it anytime soon.
Alright so I love TOS, TNG, and DS9. Wrath of Khan is my jam. Enjoyed Picard and Strange New Worlds. What should I watch next? Would you recommend watching Voyager? I'm all open to any good science fiction deep cuts you might have, as an old Sci-Fi golden age junkie.
Definitely watch Voyager. It has its own vibe and is very good IMO. Watch it before Prodigy. Watch Babylon 5 if you haven't already. Once you get past a mediocre S1, it takes off.
binged up to ep8 so far. so this series is connected to the shatner kirk ya? i dun know anything about the shatner kirk cept for the khan one. after a quick google it seems im missing out on nostalgic reveals like ai janeway and capt chakotay. anything else i should know so i can be nostalgically impressed?
Trekkies: Is there an 'essentials' watch list out there that encompasses the movies and assorted series? I just don't have the time to catch up on everything ever Star Trek. I did watch the entire run of the OG and NG series and most of the movies but I think a definitive rewatch based on hardcore nerd lore recommendations would be helpful.
TNG, DS9. There's a drop off in quality with voyager. Skip Enterprise Newer trek with JJ Abrams and Alex Kurtsman is different. More starwars eye candy, less substance. I didn't like Discovery but give at least two seasons a try. There's a noticable drop off during and after the third or fourth season. SNW tries to be like older trek where they talk about issues unlike Discovery where they tell you what's right at the very beginning, upend everything over how they're feeling at the moment, fail upwards despite death and destruction, and have a good cry over the ordeal. It's ok but nothing memorable. Warmed up on Lower Decks enough to watch when bored. They love using callbacks to older shows. Didn't like the first two seasons of Picard. Comically awful (pun intended). The final third season ended up being a movie that gave all TNG fans closure. Kurtsman and Goldsmith had little to no involvement. Prodigy has the voyager feel to it though half of the first season is the crew of kids figuring each other out. The irony of Prodigy is that it's more arc based than Voyager and for a kids show, has better character development and continuity than Discovery. Orville is like TNG Trek but with Seth McFarlane fart jokes. Also check out Galaxy Quest if you're nerding out to TOS. If you like DS9, Babylon 5 is it's evil twin though the sfx has not aged well in 4K. The first season is a slow cook where the cast and writing is figuring itself out, but it's all connected in a four season plan. They didn't know if they were getting a fifth season so that season feels like Thanksgiving leftovers.
Star Trek was like 21 jump street for me. I can watch it late at night, surf the net, and be happy. No paramount, but if on netflix, I am stealing that, so will watch. Thanks.
