Damn, the Raiders are really looking to rebuild. But, this is a bonehead move, they cut him, but they still owe him 20 million of guaranteed money.
Routt went to UH..hopefully he'll give the Texans a hometown discount even if hes from Austin. Imagine the pairing of JJ and Routt in the secondary...mmm the possibilities Wade could scheme around..
Although he'd be an upgrade over Kareem, if it means not resigning Mario, Myers, and Foster and even Briesel then do not want. Moe
It wouldn't matter. The cap situation is bleak. You may need to cut a Demeco or Daniels to bring back this years FA. Routt will not get any consideration.
The Steelers freed up $25 million in their cap issues by redoing contracts for two players. John McClain was stunned by this last season because the Texans have never wanted to spend on FA so they've never done it, but the cap can be messed with every offseason by teams who want to.
I just now posted something similar in the Arian or Mario thread http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=6624098&postcount=119 Anectdolly I heard on a radio show from an ex-player, the players dont lose anything in a restructuring deal. Players really don't receive LESS money or take any pay cuts, no big loss to them. Since they still get THEIR bottom line, must be other complications to it.
I don't know too much about him, but every Raiders game I watched, Routt was always getting a pass interference call against him, like at least 2 or 3 every game.
Geez, I had forgotten that the Raiders paid him that much. On the whole, cornerbacks tend to be overpaid. Nothing is better for a defense than having a cornerback that can defend a receiver one-on-one, but there are so very few of those guys in the league. Of course, that doesn't stop NFL teams from paying guys like that big money in search of that type of player.
I don't know anything about Routt, but just because Buchanon didn't work doesn't mean you don't try to improve your team whenever you can. I would take just about anyone over the pile of trash Kareem Jackson is.
He didn't have a great year last year. He gave up something like 8 touchdowns and was one of the more penalized DBs in the league. (that is off the top of my head, trying to remember from an article I read when he was released, so take it for what it's worth...)
No way the Texans pay for another DB. Unlike the fans, they refuse to believe that the Kareem Jackson Experience is doomed.
I would like him on this team next year but I want them to take care of Arian, Myers, Brizal, and if possible Mario first.
i think he is over rated... going to garner way too much money in FA... and houston would be better off not dealing with him... he is sloppy in man coverage( hence all of his penalties)... kareem sucks, but there is better options...
