lets bring him in to be an assisstant for the rest of the season. The Van Gundy brothers on the same bench, the Hedgehog, maybe Ron Jeremy will teach Yao some low post moves.
He's a proven NBA head coach. Why would he come here and suffer the indignity of being an assistant head coach by some act of altruism from his brother? He'll take the rest of the year off and nail the best coaching job available next summer.
I can't wait to hear JVG's response to this crap. About him getting fired/"resigning", not the possibility of him coaching here.
well since we all know that he was pushed out, he prolly still wants to coach, and he has worked with his brother before. If he comes in here as an assistant instead of totally take the year off, and we keep doing well he will still have his pick of jobs next year.
I'd welcome him to the sidelines. Any extra basketball knowledge to pass down to our players is more than welcome. I think if he did come here, it would be for this season only considering he is a proven head coach and could probably land a good coaching job elsewhere. However, people thought the same thing about Del Harris, and he's been perfectly happy coaching the sidelines of the Dallas Mavericks. Same for P.J Carlesimo (sp?) and his willingness to be an assistant coach for the Spurs.
Tcab - There's a flip side to that. Even though they don't show it, most coaches are Type A personalities. Taking "time off" is not something they do easily. Even Rudy T who appears relaxed most of the time can't stay away from the games...even Austin Toros games. For hypothesis let's say that there are no network jobs availabe. Help your brother and be active or wait for the Hawks, Wizards or Blazers to implode during the current season? If the best jobs open in the summer, I don't think it's that much of a stretch (assuming Les would shell out the $) to see SVG as a Rox assistant. Especially if he really were pushed out in MIA. What you view as altruism could be viewed as an opportunity to someone else.
Even if he was pushed out of Miami, if he resigns with the excuse "I need to spend more time with my family." does it really make sense for him to immediately join another team? And yeah, yeah, I know. Jeff is Stan's family. I'm sure somebody will make that wise crack so I'll go ahead and get it over with now.
Ya, I wouldn't be suprised if by mid January SVG says everything is ok with my family and I want to get back in the game. So he takes an assistant job with little bro (little or big?) to try and help push the Rox to the Championship to beat the Heat in the finals. Then sits back and takes the top gig available in the summer.
I really think SVG is coming here this year, mainly because he kept using that term 'family'. I know he probably truly wants to spend time with his kids, but I also think it's also a nudge nudge wink wink hint that, #1, he got fired, and #2, he's going to join his brother in a once in a lifetime opportunity ( I mean we still have one hell of a team on paper). No way SVG is going to stay for more than a year (okay, no way more than a year and a half, when the job he REALLY wants comes along), but I really foresee him coming; I always find it a little odd how much anxiety it causes the Van Gundy family...the parents AND the brothers, when they play against each other. I mean, I know there's conflicting emotions, but from the parents' interviews during the games (as well as the brothers') they make it like the loser is headed to the gallows or something. Maybe it's just the doom and gloom nature of the Van Gundy's, but I also think they'll pounce on the opportunity to coach together, since they care about each other so much. Awwwwwww.
