Hey guys, sorry I don't have the article to show...it's an ESPN insider article and I don't have insider. The caption said something about Pat Riley's silence about bringing back Stan Van Gundy is speaking volumes. I also turned on Pardon the Interruption right when they finished talking about this topic, Mariotti was saying something about Riley possibly coming back to the Miami bench, does anyone know what's going on?
ain't that convenient 1st-you abandoned your team after a dismal start to just focus on being the team president or whatever job you have 2nd-you watch one of your own disciples coach them back into the season and into the playoffs and into the 2nd round 3rd-you watch said disciple coach a team with two stars all the way to a game 7 of the ECF where a 90% shaq and an injury free game 7 wade would have made it into the finals and NOW you want to go back to the bench?!?!?! that's nice, riley, real nice.
steddinotay, According to Marc Stein Shaq is the one pushing for his return, he feels that he didn't get fed enough in the playoffs and that's why they lost, so he's using that as leverage in his contract negotiations. Don't worry Shaq' fans, he won't get any blame, maybe they'll blame Kobe?
if SVG isn't back in miami we we all know how big a snake riley is, especially if he decides he wants to coach. wow, nice loyalty to the guy who took over the team after you abandoned them when things got bad.
If Miami makes a move for the future based on Shaq's happiness, they will ruin that franchise. Miami couldn't get past Detroit with this team, do they think Shaq is going to get better or healthier. I stlll think L.A. made they riight decision in going with Kobe. Shaq has no more rings in him.
Right decision... bad trade! Shaq might not have more left in him, but Wade and Shaq have, maybe, 2 great chances, Kobe and ZERO all stars has ZERO chance at advancing to the second round in the West and will have a tough time even making the playoffs. I've looked a little more into this and ZO is also pushing for Riley, wasn't he close to dying a few years ago? Now he wants to complain about his coach, what a punk. Had your life been saved like his was do you have a right to complain about anything? NO! Doleac>Zo I understand the idea, Riley is a better coach than JVG's brother, but Shaq did say that he would make Stan Van Gundy a known coach, what happened to that? It doesn't really matter though, Shaq still thinks he can win by thinking offense first, good luck winning another ring like that. Still hate Shaq.
If they move SVG out, Shaq, Riley and the Heat will become the new Kobe, Phil Jackson & Lakers for me. As much as I love Dwayne Wade, I hope the Heat stink to high heaven next year and go flat. Both Shaq's legacy and Riley's legacy will be severely tarnished. I really don't want to believe this about Shaq because he is one of my favorite players. While Riley is the most egotistical person in the history of mankind, sacking SVG and taking back over would seem extreme even for him.
Hello, they were going to kick Detroit's kister right out of the playoff had Wade not gotten injured, and then that Detroit team goes a tight 7 in the finals. Miami had a great chance for a ring. Shaq and Wade were the most impossible duo to stop, including Duncan-Mano, Tmac-Yao, ANYbody. LA got one of the most versitle players in the league and an all-star (Odom) and a good young swingman (Butler) for Shaq, yet someone Miami ends up in a game 7 of the conference finals, where as Kobe can't get his team to the playoffs. Shaq has a much better chance for another ring in the few years left he has left than Kobe does in all his years he has left. You have to be a blind fool not to see that. Oh, back on topic, that would be really crappy if Shaq/Riley forced SVG out. I think he did a great job getting that completely new team to be right with the best. Miami is one of the 2-3 favorites for next year, with the right modest moves this offseason (upgrade PG, another vet 4) maybe THE favorites. SVG should keep the reins.
Scar, Odom has never been an All Star. It would be a shame, but Shaq's desperate and Riley is the better coach. It would be cool to see Riley back on the sidelines, don't you think?
Even if there were room, it would be pointless since they're essentially the same person (except Jeff can't pass for a p*rn star).
How many playoff wins were because of Shaq? Last time I checked, it was Wade's injury that prevented them from advancing. I mean, Shaq barely played the two rounds they won.
dont forget all the players that wanted to play with Shaq.. I have to admit Shaq draws people to him. People want to play with him and it seemed every available FA decided to sign with Shaq and ride his tails to a championship. Wherever Shaq goes hungry vets follow... That really helped Miami last year and could help them this year too. J
Dr. Jack Ramsay is on public record that Riley will take over. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2108713 With no commitment from Pat Riley -- and no emphatic, public denials -- speculation continues to mount that the team's president will take the reins from Stan Van Gundy and coach the Miami Heat next season. "Pat Riley has indicated to Stan Van Gundy in reports I have received that he intends to return as coach of the Heat," ESPN analyst Dr. Jack Ramsay told the network on air Thursday. "I don't know where this leaves Stan Van Gundy, but I'm pretty certain that Riley will return as coach." Ramsay, a Hall of Fame coach and a former TV analyst for the Heat, indicated the coaching change is expected in the next week or two. "I haven't heard anything," Van Gundy told the Miami Herald for Friday's editions, declining further comment. Van Gundy, who has two years remaining on his contract, said recently he would work for the Heat only as their head coach. Ramsay said he spoke with Riley during the NBA playoffs, and Riley indicated that he missed the rush of coaching. Although Shaquille O'Neal reportedly was unhappy at not getting the ball in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Pistons, there has been no sign that Heat players have pushed for Van Gundy's ouster; in fact, according to the Herald, several players have privately expressed that Van Gundy remain coach. In eight seasons as the Heat's coach, Riley's teams were 354-270 in the regular season and 18-25 in the playoffs. Riley won four championships with the Lakers and also coached the Knicks before joining the Heat in 1995. Owner Micky Arison is not believed to have asked Riley to resume coaching the team, a high-ranking team official told the Herald.
This will go down as at least as low as Boozer-gate. It would be deliciously ironic if Riles proceeded to continue his one-and-down Heat playoff streak. Evan
Really? True they are both disciples of Riley, I always thought SVG was more offense oriented and only stressed the importance of defense. Maybe having both could be like the best of both worlds. Then again, having big brother be gilligan and the little brother be the skipper IS a bit weird.
Is it much better than Pop firing Bob Hill & installing himself as coach after the miserable season that landed him the Duncan pick? .... I'm no Hill find, he's king douche as fas as I'm concerned, Pop is a very good coach but it still seemed a little sleazy at the time
Difference is the Spurs were losing.. The Heat were in the ECF's if Riley really moves forward he is very sleazy and tarnishes his image. J
They were losing for one season b/c Elliott & Robinson missed the entire season, as well as massive injuries to their other starters. It was a cursed year, nothing to do with the coaching.
