Okay, looking for clutchfans experience with do-it-yourself concrete floors. For background related to this here clutchfans BBS: (1) With help here I selected our next family car. (2) With help here, I just (today) sold the family Toyota via Craig's List. (3) With the new car on order, we have two weeks sans car, and I am thinking of staining the concrete in the garage (insert LOL.) Anyone try this? I think it would look awesome and hilarious.
Hire a contractor, and he'll put a strain on your wallet as well! this amazing joke brought to you in part by KGB: text 99 cents for something you can google on your phone for free in half the time
Stained concrete in an area that could get wet = bad idea, IMO. Where I go to school, there was an area of stained concrete right outside one of the entryways. Any time it got wet, it was insanely slick. People slipped and got injured on a regular basis. Eventually they got rid of the stained concrete. I don't know how they did it. I suppose they sanded it down or something.
Yeah, this doesn't get too wet. Am thinking just for an interior garage space, very small. I am now in love with this video: <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/LDMIQW-xIII&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/LDMIQW-xIII&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> Check out the soundtrack if nothing else. You keep expecting Werner Herzog to start talking!
This is true, but stained concrete is used outside everywhere from walkways to doorsteps or around pool areas. People always complain about how slick it is. The other thing about stained concrete is that it may need to get re-sealed every 1-3 years or so depending on traffic and weather exposure. That can be a pain. People that don't do this get a washed out look/white splotches in areas of the concrete. This is true in stained concrete exposed to the elements, anyway. But I'm not sure about for interior applications. I'm going to be extending and re-doing a patio probably before next spring and thought about doing a walkway around my backyard and to my patio in stained concrete, but decided I'll probably just go with flagstone when I researched the maintenance involved with stained concrete. Also, what's it going to look like when oil, car fluids, and whatever else gets into or on the concrete? I've actually seen it done, but doubt I'd try it.
Man oh man, debbie downers. Seriously, thanks for the reality check. I've just been in super fancy garages where it's super clean, with an orange stained concrete floor, and the car makes fart noises when you cut the wheels, and that seemed kind of like heaven, right? Do watch the video I found.
Just wondering why anyone would stain a garage floor? I just used the epoxy floor coating and it looks like new still and it's been about five years since putting it down. check the link this is what I used and if you have a two car garage you will need two of them. http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&productId=100676287&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=100676287&cm_mmc=shopping-_-googlebase-_-D24X-_-100676287&locStoreNum=577&marketID=8
