I know there is a drug reference coming up somewhere.

I'm not sure what type of grass I have, but I use Scotts Bonus S weed and feed.

I follow his schedule pretty closely but I've never had a great front yard. A lot of it's my fault because I don't have a sprinkler system.

When I was living in Texas, usually around the end of February or beginning of March, I would put a dethatch blade (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/311Cq92gl1L._SL500_AA280_.jpg) on my mower and cut it down to about a quarter inch above the dirt...making sure to leave the St. Augustine roots in place. I'd then fertilize it thoroughly with any weed-n-feed stuff that Wal-Mart or Sams had on sale. When the grass started growing back, I'd set my regular lawn mower blade to a high setting and allow the grass to grow relatively tall and thus allowing it to thicken up. I would continue letting it grow tall and cutting it on the high setting with my mower. By mid-summer, I would have a great looking lawn. Just make sure that you water it thoroughly after dethatching. 70F degrees is the magic number where St. Augustine will "wake" back up and start thriving.

Weed and Feed? It seems that all the W&Fs I've seen specifically say on the bag not to use it with St Augustine...
