i keep getting this message thing that pops up and its driving me crazy. i have already run adaware and spycop and this thing is still there. does anyone know where i can delete it or what prog i can get to get it to go away?
What does the message say? If you are using Windows XP, hit ctrl-alt-del, click on services, highlight Messenger Service (note, this has nothing to do with Windows Messenger), kill it. See if the problem still exists.
Is it 'Windows Messenger' that looks like a gray box? Does it frequently say 'University Diplomas' or something similar? It can be shut off in msconfig if it's the case.
MSN Messenger (and their 'Windows Messenger') is different than the 'Windows Messenger' (or Messenger service; I forget the name) that is built in to the computer. It's not the same you German idiot!
the message will say some crap about how my comp has a security hole and that it can be taken over by a worm or some bs and then it tells me to go to a website...i cant remember the names of them, but they are like popupremover.com or something like that i know the thing you're talking about but its not on there. i have evntsvc.exe on there though. doesnt look familiar. btw its not that savenow bs. i got that removed
I keep getting one from Real Player, even on my work computer. It pops up and says I have a message. I've ran AdAware and I still get it. Any suggestions?
You need to go into the Real Player preferences and turn off this ****....I think it is called Real Player Message Center or something like that.
You'll try running SpyBot? There's also a SpyBotS&D forum. http://forums.net-integration.net/ Do a search...maybe someone else has the same problem you do.
Realplayer was recently discovered to have a bug exploit where hackers can penetrate your computer. I'd recommend uninstalling it. I'd find the link for ya but I'm at work and don't think I can reach that website at this time. As far as the messenger thing popping up, I forgot how to remove it but try googling it with the right keywords like Disabling messenger pop ups. It's an actual messenger program embedded in Windows that was meant more for LAN use at work then as spam advertisement.
Here's the real player link http://www.techworld.com/news/index.cfm?fuseaction=displaynews&NewsID=986
Many thanks for posting that link. I am just installing the update. I bet that my settings afterwards will be changed to accepting all their automatic crap and all their notices and they will try to change my file associations again, too. I HATE Real Player, but it is necessary to listen to some Rockets games. Here, from the article: A huge percentage of Real users make sure that automatic updating is turned off due to the company's constant efforts to get them to upgrade to a pay-for version of the player. Even if the update check is run, the 9MB update to fix the vulnerabilities is not very clearly flagged and doesn't appear to be very important. Real, it seems, still has much to learn about how to deal with security holes. So true.
robbie, I was getting the same thing. It comes up when you open IE, right? To get rid of it just click "tools" then "Internet Options" and delete the crap some spywear loaded as your homepage. The easiest way to put in the homepage you want is go to the website you want as your homepage and follow the above instructions (after you are on the page you want) and click "Use Current"
Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services -> Messenger. Disable it. It's what causes those pop-ups that look like messages from Windows. They're really from someone using the Windows (not Microsoft IM) Messenger service. If this path doesn't work, look online. I think this is how you get to it, though.
