Of course this makes sense for a team that needs to strengthen the front court...at least get something for him like a pick or second string 3.

I hate the Spurs -- I endorse this move because it makes them worse! Walker has actually been an integral part of the team for a while. I guess they wanted to drop him so they could sign an old has-been center. Ya know, I bet Rony Seikley would be interested San Antonio!

I've stated this in another thread, but I watched Samaki play a lot here after Dallas wasted a very high draft pick on him. He has NOOOO basketball sense and has a minor case of Cato's Disease. It's no accident that Mavs and Spurs jettisoned him despite some C/PF skills!!

Picking him up would NOT be a good move for Rox.

Inconsistent Walker is gone...and it frees up another $2.65 mil to go free agent hunting with...damn right it was a good day.

too bad that when you waive a player, they still count against the cap.

Just to back up this point with one of my favorite anecdotes:

The Warriors were playing the Mavs in Dallas in '99 (I think). The Mavs miss a shot, and the rebound results in a jump ball. The tap is retrieved a couple of feet from the rim by Chris Mills of the W's -- who, forgetting which end of the court they're on, goes up for a layup.

Embarrassing? Of course. But not as embarrassing for Mills as for Samaki Walker, who just as instinctively goes up to block the shot and fouls Mills in the process.

Ever the competitor, PJ Carlesimo argued with the refs that it should be a shooting foul, with Mills getting free throws. Supposedly, one ref shut him up by saying, "OK, but he'll have to shoot them on this end."

A truly classic bad-basketball moment. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Nike, only $600,000 of his salary will count toward the cap. The other $2.65 million of his contract is freed by the move to pay for Robinson, Anderson and whatever FA SF they can find.

Will Samaki ever be known for anything other than arriving at the NBA Draft looking like a pimp?
