SAN ANTONIO, Dec. 29 (AP) -- The San Antonio Spurs signed journeyman guard DerMarr Johnson and waived 2007 draft pick Marcus Williams on Saturday.

Johnson has played for Atlanta, New York and Denver during a seven-year NBA career that was interrupted when he broke his neck in a car accident in 2002. He returned to the NBA 1 1/2 years later with the Knicks.

The 27-year-old Johnson had his best season in 2001-02, when he averaged 8.4 points and 3.4 rebounds in 72 games with the Hawks. His career averages are 6.2 points and 2.3 rebounds. He started this season with the Spurs' NBA Development League team in Austin, averaging 15.8 points and 6.0 rebounds in 10 games.

Williams, the 33rd pick in the draft, appeared in his only game with the Spurs on Wednesday against Chicago. He averaged 3.3 points and 2.6 rebounds in seven preseason games.

I'm posting this cause Dermarr was always an interesting player to me,he knows how to slash to the rim but in the same time shoot 3's.Could bring some much needed athleticism to Spurs, our rivals.

Looks like they are reloading and "re-youthing" their role players. I've always like Demarr's game as well (in a limited role). Between him and Udoka they have a couple of younger, athletic guys that could probably learn some dirty tricks from Bruce Bowen.

Amazingly, this team may be able to retool it's lineup on the fly as Duncan gets older and still be a contender in 4-5 years. Imagine if just one top All-Star caliber free agent decides to join that team in another few years. The team will have Parker still in his prime, Duncan should still be a force at times (the playoffs), Ginobli will probably be washed but oh well. As smart as the management is they could easily pick up more trophies for a while.

    by a looooooooooooooooooong shot...

but, that doesn't say too much since the Spurs have the best management in the NBA period, and arguably the best in all of pro sports.

They also signed Keith Langford and released Washington which is a pretty good PG prospect.

They are doing a LOT with the Toros.......they are so far ahead of the Rockets....dang it.

Hey they released Beno... So... Anywho...
They always find role players like Daniels, Jackson, or Brown. Johnson is the second coming of Derek Anderson who had a nice stint with SA.

when your team keeps winning championships, talents all wanna go there, so it's not all due to management... but yes, their management is better than most NBA teams
