Yeah, sure they suck, but I was happy to see them. I have lived in the Virgin Islands most of my life and attend the University of the Virgin Islands, where the Spurs training camp was for this year. I have never seen an NBA player, or for that matter, any professional athlete that I recognize. For the whole of the past week, the Spurs conducted their training camp at the college's Sports and Fitness Center from early in the day till around 2 or 3. One thing I noticed about those players were that were very serious. I saw both Nesterovich and Parker up close. Nesterovic did not even make eye contact with people when they called his name. Parker, on the other hand, acknowledged when he heard his name (by me and a couple others), by saying "whats up fellas?" Tim Duncan, who is from the Virgin Islands, was for the most part surrounded by the media. On the last day of training camp, Duncan and many others rushed out of the gym. Coach Pop did not seem too sociable with the fans. When some girls at the college asked for a picture with him, it did not seem as if he wanted to get in it wholeheartedly. On Friday, the Spurs had a scrimmage game. One team included: Bowen, Saunder, Horry, Nazr Mohammed, Brent Barry, and Nick Van Exel. The other was Parker, Ginobili, Beno Udrih, Duncan, Fabrico Oberto, Micheal Finley, and others who I did not recognize. For the first part of the game, the team without Duncan was losing (surprisingly), but they eventually caught up and won. I was impressed with Oberto's play. He had some nice, quick spin moves. Finley still has a stroke at the 3, Nick the Quick is solid but not a go to guy anymore. Ginobili had some nasty moves. Saunders, who I had not known too much about, has potential as he drained many long distant shots. Horry for the most part was clowning around. Duncan also clowned around a little including: pretending to start a fight with Bowen (humorous), doing a crossover taking four steps and then throwing it down, and laughing with Horry some.
No, those aren't college kids. There are certain after-school activities for non-college students on the campus away from the general area.
