ESPN Mark Stein article Interesting article on the Spurs... which included this comment: It's no secret, furthermore, that the Spurs have already shopped (and will continue to shop) Rasho Nesterovic, with a similar fate possibly looming for Brent Barry, last summer's marquee free-agent addition. I think we have the depth where we don't need either of those guys and it is highly unlikely that the Spurs would trade directly with us. PG... Skip/Sura SG... Wesley/Anderson/Jon Barry SF... TMac/Brent Barry PF... Swift/Howard C.... Yao/Deke/Rasho Nice, deep, versitle team. Opens up trade options. Not enough minutes to go around... and no way that the Spurs would take our foder for those two guys. But makes for interesting conversation as we wait for Training Camp Day Three Report.
1) Brent Barry is not a 3. 2) The open market for B. Barry and Rasho exceeds any combination of Head, Glover, Baxter, Bowen, Hayes and Moochie. Next topic.
Oh but how sweet it would be to acquire the other Barry as well.... Rick Jon Brent all bleeding Rocket Red... Give em Moochie, CD Make it happen!
There is no room on this roster for Brent Barry. I like this team we have right now. Brent Barry is the same player like his brother but younger. He doesn't play defense so JVG doesn't want him.
Mooch, give us one last assist and go sleep with RC Buford. Do whatever it takes to make this trade happen.
I'm happy with the team we have now. I say stick with what we have and develop chemistry. The Rockets may have the deepest roster in their history!
Word! If Rasho or Brent Barry were in Pops doghouse most of last year, they would definitely be in JVG's doghouse. Rasho has Moochie's disease and Brent Barry just doesn't have the intestinal fortitude to be reliable on a championship contender. I'm sooooo glad he chose the Spurs last year instead of us.
don't need either one. after signing anderson and trading for skip, we really dont' have a home for brent barry...and don't even get me started on rasho.
If Yao won't be getting us offensive rebounds and cheap points in the paint, adding those guys won't make any difference at all...
Quick somebody please tell the SPURS that Brent can't play for a championship contender!!! They're new to being a contender so lets help them out... when's the last time they won a championship??? We're experienced with out two from the middle 90's... help them out
I didn't say he couldn't be on a championship contender. Even Rasho can ride the pine. My point was Brent Barry was basically a bust for the Spurs. For 4yrs/$24MM, they got 7ppg and 35.7% from 3pt. His jittery play made Pop want to pull his hair out. He never found a comfort zone last year and contibuted precious little to their championship. That's why they want to dump him but can't find any takers. Don't hold this against me: I'm a borderline Spurs fan. The player that everyone called THE key FA signing last summer turned out to be a dud. He was the one who many said would put the Spurs over the hump. What a joke! Maybe Pop screamed at him too much and he doesn't respond to that. Whatever. He was supposedly a good lockerroom guy in Seattle with the younger players (on a mediocre team). But on a championship level team with high expectations and an animated old school coach, you can't count on him to be at his best when the going gets tough. The Spurs would have been better if they signed another backup guard. If Devin Brown had not got hurt, Barry's role would have been even more limited. Brent and Jon do not have the same game. Jon guy plays hard every minute he's on the floor, is intense and fears no one. Brent plays softer than SpongeBob.
