Does anyone else realize this? Spurs got lucky tonight because K-Mart didn't do his FT boxout assignment. Before the series, I was expecting Spurs rout nets every game to blow off Nets easily like Lakers did last year and Tim Duncan to totally dominate the Nets. But after 3 games, Nets look like a legitimate contender now. Spurs kept turning ball over left and right and kept missing free throws. The scoring kept getting lower and lower. 101, 85, and 84. Will game 7 be like 61 vs 60? For Christ's sake, Dallas scored 82 points alone in first half against the Kings!
These finals are just brutal. unreal that 2 teams who are both so mediocre are fighting it out for the NBA TITLE. They are setting back basketball with this display of bricking FT's, turnovers, and awful shooting. Just a disgrace.
San Antonio won 60 freakin' games. They had the best record in the NBA. If they are mediocre, what does that say about the rest of the league?
san antonio's having a hard time with the nets.. and with those 60 wins, i think they just proved that records are just a bunch of numbers. man, im laughin every time duncan goes to the free throw and chokes.. lol
either way...SA will never be categorized in the "worst team to win a championship" category that so many media people tend to put us in.
I don't see how anyone could argue with the fact that SA is going to be the worst champ of all time. Their best player can't hit a clutch FT to save his life. They got here due to injuries to Marbury, an Horry 3 that went in and out ,and injuries to Dirk and Webber and are struggling in a dogfight against a poor NJ team that's here because the East simply sucks. It's hard to believe SA beat the Lakers somehow, but LA just didn't have it this year. The NBA is becoming like the NFL: Parity and expansion have produced a poor product which is getting harder to watch. The first of half of Game 3 was just disgusting. SA may have won 60 games, but they are simply not playing a high level of basketball in the postseason. I just don't see how anyone can even argue that. People drone on and on about their fundamentals and here's a team that simply can not hit a clutch FT at all. Not much more fundamental in the NBA than a FT. Does anyone think SA is playing at a championship level caliber of ball right now? Sure they will win it all, but it's more like the "who sucks less?" series right now. Kind of reminds me of the Ravens-Giants Super Bowl of a few years ago.
You guys amaze me with the Spurs and Mavs bashing. I for one am for the Spurs and the state of Texas in this one. You guys sound like Aggies in regards to UT. And no that is NOT a compliment. Your jealousy of our Texas brothers amazes me.
Spurs were up 3-1 when Dirk got injured late in the 4th quarter of game 4... Kings was another story, since the Spurs did not play them during the play-offs, who knows what a healthy Webber can do, but its all speculation. Lakers? They were beaten 4-2, and comprehensively in the last game in LA. Horry missed all 21 of his 3-point attempts this play-offs, thus I wasn't too sure he was going to make that shot at the end of game 5... btw, I would take Ducan over a clutch Horry any day of the week and twice on Sunday on my team. Spurs might not be the most flashy, or best Championship team (if they win it) in the last few years according to many people, but they are the best team this year. Those who can't knock them off sucks more. -G'day-
The series has not been pretty but the Spurs are a Stephen Jackson 3 pointer away from from being 3-0 in the series. And why does everyone think that Tim Duncan is a choker because he is missing free throws. I don't remember anyone saying this about Shaq and his free throws.
If the Spurs win 2 more games they look like a champion to me. I will bet anyone in here, that if was the Rockets stumbling to these ugly wins no one would be complaining. DD
So you are positive the Spurs would have lost to the Suns if Marbury didn't go down? Their game one win sure did look like a miracle to me. Horry's three missed, sometimes that happens. If Jackson makes his three in Game 2, SA is up 3-0. If Stockton misses his against us that yr, we might have been in the Finals. Horry missed, and the Spurs were in control for the majority of that series, and went into LA and kicked their ass to clinch. SA was in control of the Dallas series before Dirk got hurt. If anyone was the beneficiary of the Webber injury, it was Dallas, not SA. Injuries are a part of the game. Should I discount Shaq's first ring since Duncan was hurt that yr? Yes, the East is weak. Hasn't it been just as weak for the past 3 Lakers titles? I understand that ya might not like the Spurs, but give them their props. How can someon's championship season (if they win) be tainted WHEN THEY KNOCKED OFF THE CHAMPS?? Oh...because they really didn't beat LA....LA beat themsleves/were hurt, etc.
It is what it is, but if San Antonio wins, they were the best team this year. They won the regular season and they won the finals. No big surprise. They were the best team no doubt.
Yeah, I don't recall any Rockets fan complaining in 94 during that ugly Finals series, especially the second half of Game 1, where both teams scored a total of 63 points.
everyone in here who are saying that the spurs are not worthy of being called champion because they're winning due to luck, injuries, or by default of the east being weak are REALLY stupid. This is the same as saying the 94 and 95 rockets won by default because MJ was out of basketball.
I just can't believe that a team that starts two complete zeros in Bowen and Jackson can win an NBA title. I wouldn't give the Spurs Matt Maloney for either of those players. How do you get to be a NBA player and not be able to shoot a basketball?
It was much better than this ugly series, maybe it will improve, but the last game was horrible. Maybe OJ will do something weird to spice it up. dn1282 MJ was playing in 95 and had the highest scoring regular season game against the Knicks 50+, he was playing well. They got knocked out by the Majic because they were a very good team. period. The missing piece for the Bulls was aquired in 96 -- Rodman.
