(not really a big surprise)!
I thought you have to sign a player before the March 1st deadline in order for him to qualify for the playoffs roster.
From my understanding of the rule, he just had a to clear waivers or be claimed prior to the March 1 deadline. Another example is Cassell who signed on the 4th but cleared waivers prior to the deadline so he is playoff eligible.
right. as long as you're cut and cleared before march 1st you are eligible. you don't necessarily have to be signed to the team by march 1st.
...Does anyone else laugh at the fact that the Sonics got like 5 draft picks, just on Kurt Thomas alone? XD
Because if he is claimed the team that claimed him had to pay his existing contract, but if he clears waivers they are free to negotiate a new deal. DD
sour grapes? like an above poster said, better than luther head, although i would say MUCH MUCH better. Luther's one dimensional, Barry's a baller.
But that's what I'm asking? Was his contract really awful? You might've thought another contender might have grabbed him just so the Spurs couldn't have him! Then they could release him AFTER March 1 and let the Spurs pick up the peices there...
You would have to have cap space to claim him on waivers... which eliminated us. No one even hinted of considering to want him off the waiver wire. He cleared waivers 48 hours after he was released but had to wait 30 days to sign with the Spurs. Also to sign him for the sake of keeping him from SA is kind of dumb. I mean if he is so bad that you don't even want him on your team why would you worry if he went to the spurs.
Ironic that Greg Popovich b****es about the Grizzlies and Lakers on the Gasol trade for having some under the table agreement then he goes and does this deal.
