Holt doesn't pay LT. At least not in the past. If the Spurs waive Marcus Williams who has a non-guaranteed contract they'll only have 9 players on their roster @ $71.22923M. Minimum roster is 13 players. The LT tax figure is projected to be around $69.4M. The Rockets have the TEs (Francis, Alston, and Donte trades) to deal for Finley, Hill, and Mahinmi. That would take $4.48138M off the Spur's team salary. Finley is a shell of his former self. Hill is behind Mason, both play the same positions PG/SG. Mahinmi is still a project/bust. If the Spurs salary dump the above package of players and sign 7 players to the rookie minimum (pretty much following the Celtics plan) their team salary would stand at $69.950966M. When the LT figure is announced a couple of weeks into July there's a chance they'll be under it or at least they'll be in a very good position to get themselves back under. This could be another chance at a Scola trade except this time around the prize is Splitter.
No, but he can opt out of his euro contract next year. The holder of his draft rights will also be able to pay him more than the rookie scale beginning next season. http://www.48minutesofhell.com/2009/04/23/tiago-splitter-news/
He's making around 1.4M euros per year tax free. An equivalent NBA salary is around $4M. The Spurs/Rockets can offer that to him next year.
Mason is in the last year of his 2 year deal, so yeah they could move him but unlikely. As for Hill, I doubt it. Hes a nice backup to TP.
Why do we want to take crap players off the Spurs roster to help them get under the luxury tax? Is this a reach-a-round type thank you for the Scola deal? And I don't see where you mentioned how we would get Splitter in all this.
I would seriously consider trading for Hill or Mason rather than resigning Wafer. More importantly, if the guys they traded are cut or bought out the Spurs won't be able to offer anything more than the veterans minimun if they are over the cap. Could there be a chance in there to take Oberto?
Roger Mason I wouldn't mind having on our team. Hill isn't a huge upgrade over Lowry so why bring him in to play the point?
the problem is, finley is a free agent and they aren't going to give away hill. even if we did use our TE's to take on enough salary to get the spurs under the LT, that would put us close to the LT ourselves. we wouldn't have enough room to resign both ron and von. personally, i'd rather ron and von next season instead of splitter and spurs trash.
TEs are generated when one team takes back less salary in a trade. Example: A trades $20 to B. B trades $23 to A. A $3 TE is generated for B.
